Job Description
The Makhlynets and Korendovych Labs are looking for a highly motivated postdoc to join our team and to advance several funded projects. The research will devise the molecular detail of the interplay between protein scaffolds and metal cofactors that ultimately determine changes in protein function. Specifically, we will devise molecular determinants for metal preference in ribonucleotide reductase. We will test the limits of our recently-developed method of NMR -guided evolution and apply it 1) to probe evolutionary links between enzymes in different organisms and 2) to design highly active metalloenzymes for practically useful reactions.

- Protein expression and purification, making protein mutants, protein NMR
- The candidate will do computational work in collaboration with U. of Miami
- Crystallography experience is a plus
- Making/purifying protein and its mutants in E. coli
- Load protein with metal ions, remove unbound metal ion by buffer exchange column, analyze metal binding by ICP
- Perform kinetic assays using plate reader
- Structural characterization of protein catalysts using NMR, X-ray
- Computational models of protein catalysts
- Writing papers and grants, attending conferences
