Job Description Summary

Manages a technical team, provides technical leadership and initiates technical standards and solutions to provide quality eLearning computer services and to increase the efficiency and performance of the eLearning Services organization.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer technology services or related field.
  • Three years full-time or part-time equivalent in a computer technology services and/or related field
  • Two years of supervisory experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated knowledge of system administration and user support for a Learning Management System ( LMS ), preferably Canvas.
  • Ability to test eLearning content with an LMS and correct issue with the content, to maintain usability and reliability in the LMS .
  • Experience working with a Student Information System, preferably Colleague.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in evaluating, implementing, and/or using educational technologies including virtual delivery tools, preferably Zoom.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices and pedagogy for online and other course modalities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of planning technical projects, managing multiple concurrent tasks and completing tasks on time.
  • Knowledge of managing a large user database, preferably using Oracle software.
  • Demonstrated technical skill working with UNIX or LINUX operating systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in providing computer-related customer service, especially complex problems related to computer hardware, applications and users.
  • Demonstrated ability to work professionally on a team and with diverse individuals within diverse groups (e.g. faculty, staff and students)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (e.g. written, verbal)
Criteria

CRITERIA : The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Supervises and evaluates the eLearning Services technical support team.
  • Functions as team leader for the eLearning Services and promotes a synergistic team environment.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex technical problems for users of eLearning Services technologies, including faculty, students and staff; notifies users if service must be interrupted.
  • Works directly with the Director, eLearning Services to prioritize and complete related technology projects and to provide on-going services.
  • Researches best practices, current accepted standards, solutions and products;
  • Recommends the purchase of additional and replacement equipment, materials, and supplies for eLearning technologies.
  • Assists in developing protocols for database growth and operations; maintains the user and statistical databases within Canvas.
  • Participates in vendor negotiations and recommends software upgrades and additions to continuously improve the technical support of Canvas
  • Serves as a liaison with Data Science, Innovation and Effectiveness and other college services to support learning management system courses.
  • Creates and catalogs documentation for technical procedures, problem identification and resolution.
  • Communicates technical issues and problem resolutions to faculty and staff.
  • Ensures that the technical staff adheres to accepted technical standards.
  • Assists in collecting data that measures eLearning Services performance and quality of service to improve eLearning Services work processes.
  • Identifies and implements new and innovative ways to maximize the efficiency of eLearning technical services and support.
  • Maintains currency in computer information and eLearning technologies.
  • Documents and tracks assigned tasks and projects; reports status to the Director, eLearning Services.
  • Identifies and communicates technology training needs of staff to the Director, eLearning Services.
  • Provides faculty and staff training when appropriate.
  • Reinforces and maintains high ethical standards of conduct and procedures to ensure the security of the College’s technology assets and data.
  • Responsible for communicating both technical and non-technical matters effectively in person and in writing with a diverse population.
  • Recommends and implements changes in work processes to improve quality of service.
  • Prepares monthly reports on usage and other information in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for making non-routine, independent decisions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to work Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
