Position Summary

The Associate Director of Institutional Research and Analysis will be responsible for maintaining, disseminating, and analyzing accurate and consistent campus-wide data derived internally to provide for mandated external reporting and internal administrative planning and decision-making. The Associate Director also assists the Director with the systematic organization and utilization of data warehouses and reporting systems to facilitate campus-wide access to official data. The Associate Director represents the office and acts on behalf of the Director when appropriate.

Major Responsibilities

Mandatory Federal and State Reporting Systems
  • Lead submission of all campus data files required for the SUNY Institutional Research Information System ( SIRIS ) reporting series, including converting data from the student information system (Banner) into SIRIS formats and updating or correcting Banner data to meet SUNY and SIRIS criteria;
  • Serve as reporting liaison with internal offices that maintain SIRIS -related data (Administrative Computing, Registrar, Admissions, Financial Aid, Human Resources, etc.).
  • Support submission of other government-mandated reports, including the federal Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System ( IPEDS ) report series, Title II (teacher education) reporting, New York State Education Department ( NYSED ) report series, and other SUNY mandated reports;
Accreditation Support
  • Provide data for Middle States accreditation, including completion of the Annual Institutional Update report;
  • Provide data for teacher education and other program-specific accreditations;
  • Assist in data collection and analysis for the Institutional Effectiveness unit (institutional planning and assessment).
Data, Research, and Analysis
  • Collaborate on research studies and data analyses to explain and/or predict outcomes and trends;
  • Collaborate with Information Resources offices to design, develop, and implement IRA -related Argos reports, using the campus Operational Data Store/Enterprise Data Warehouse ( ODS / EDW ) systems and Banner;
  • Serve on campus committees and work groups, such as the Student Learning Outcomes Committee, Banner Users Group, and Data Request Group;
  • Assist in administration of major campus-wide surveys (e.g., NSSE, FSSE, SUNY Student Satisfaction Survey)
In addition, the successful candidate should have strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships

The Associate Director reports to the Director of Institutional Research and Analysis and works closely with offices within the academic affairs division and throughout the campus.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Two (2) years of experience working in institutional research or assessment or related area;
  • Experience with college student information systems, including updating student and course/section records, executing queries, submitting job processes and extracting data;
  • Experience with data warehousing and report writing tools such as Argos, Cognos, or Crystal Reports;
  • Knowledge of research design and appropriate statistical methods of analysis
  • Two (2) years of experience with data analysis, including cleaning/filtering datasets and using both descriptive and inferential techniques to summarize and analyze data;
  • Knowledge of survey design and methodology
  • Demonstrated analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree;
  • Experience with Banner student information system;
  • Experience with applications for statistical analysis (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R)
  • Basic knowledge of SQL and/or Argos, such as generating and executing queries and dashboards;
  • Experience submitting and correcting data in a complex statewide record-level data submission system, preferably SIRIS ;
  • Experience work collaboratively in teams or groups; and
  • Experience coordinating and prioritizing concurrent projects.
