Essential Job Functions

This position reports to the Executive Director of the University Union and Auxiliary Services and collaborates with unit leadership to identify and develop strategic initiatives consistent with the strategic plan. Contributes to decision-making, long range planning, and in the allocation of resources for the unit. Provides leadership, supervises and develops staff, coordinates activities, and may serve on committees and teams at the institutional level.

Under the direction of the Executive Director of the University Union & Auxiliary Services, the Associate Director of Union Operations is responsible for the management and leadership of the University Union’s building services, equipment and related activities. This includes management and supervision of the University Union’s daily operations, custodial, building management and event support services. Oversight includes developing plans for building and equipment upkeep and maintenance, short and long-range planning and managing budgets that support these operations. This position will also work to create a safe and inclusive environment for all UW Green Bay students where all feel a sense of place and pride.

What You'll Do

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Facility Management.
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees.
  • Event Support.
  • Assists with the development of strategic planning initiatives and unit objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources in alignment with the strategic plan.
  • Serves as the unit liaison among internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information and representing the interests of the unit in the absence of the Executive Director.
  • Assists with identification, tracking, and reporting of performance metrics to monitor progress toward strategic goals and to measure the effectiveness of programs and services.
  • Assists in the development of operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives.
  • May participate on committees as appropriate, representing the interests of the unit and the institution.
  • May develop and audit the unit budget.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, retail, student personnel, or related field at time of application
  • 2 years direct professional experience in University Union operations or related field
  • Experience directly hiring, training, supervising, and/or developing staff that perform the duties and responsibilities to support building operations
  • Working knowledge of desktop hardware and standard business software programs (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, database) and the Internet
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population, creating a culture of inclusion

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in business, management, retail, student personnel, or related field
  • Experience in developing, communicating, interpreting, and/or enforcing policies and procedures
  • Participation with emergency planning
  • Professional experience working in a Student Union

Conditions of Appointment

Position is a full-time Academic Staff appointment.  Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). Compensation and Benefits

Salary range of $60,000 - $65,000. 

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Benefit Details

The UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.

In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
