  PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The Geospatial and STEM Projects Coordinator would support for implementing multiple external grants funded geospatial, environmental and STEM research and education projects.
  
  
  
  SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
  
  The Geospatial and STEM Projects Coordinator (GSPC) in the College of Agriculture, Community and the Sciences would serve as a support person for coordinating multiple research and education projects to promote environmental, agricultural, STEM, and international education and experiential research projects at Kentucky State University. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) of the multiple research and education grants, the GSPC will coordinate research and programming duties in compiling, developing and analyzing agricultural, environmental and geospatial data to use for students’ experiential research projects, presentations and publications.
  
  
  
  ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  
  

1. Compile, create, an update geospatial data of the project sites including Caribbean countries.
2. Obtain technical training in use and calibration of several types of sensors and instruments related to agriculture, soil, microclimate, water, and remote sensing application.
3. Train/assist undergraduate students use of multiple geospatial and image processing software, sensors, and data acquisition, processing, analysis and mapping.
4. Assist in implementation of USDA- and NSF-funded undergraduate experiential research activities including short-term study abroad projects
5. Maintain undergraduate research assistants’ database and information for a project website.
6. Assist in recruiting high school students for a Summer Apprentice Program (SAP) and organizing the SAP each summer session
7. Compile and update grants records, project promotion brochures, flyers, curriculum, and recruitment materials.
8. Assisting the project team and students for preparing research presentations, progress report preparation, and submission.
9. Assisting the project team and participating faculty for developing, mentoring, and conducting student experiential research projects.
10. Assist in managing geospatial lab, update software and manage licenses for geospatial software.
11. Assist the project leadership team for organizing Annual STEM-DAY, GIS-Day, and other student professional development activities at KSU.
12. Performing other related duties as required by the supervisor or the project team.

OTHER DUTIES:

The GSPC also assists in record keeping, logistic, administrative, and geospatial laboratory support for students training and teaching geospatial courses and other duties as required.



QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: Bachelor degree in Geographic Information System (GIS) Science,, Geoscience, STEM Education, or other natural resource area. Candidates with one years’ experience of use of geospatial software, data, mentoring of minority students and international travels are preferred.

Licensing and Certifications

Candidates with a FAA Drone piloting license and GIS Professional (GISP) certification, field data collection experience are encouraged.





KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

• Enhanced skills on use of ArcGIS Desktop and Pro versions, UAV-Drone and Lidar data and ArcGIS software administration and license management.
• At least one years’ experience in geospatial project development, STEM Education and/or research and project management.
• Experience of working with undergraduate minority students and mentoring their research projects.
• Practical experience in database management and basic statistics in Excel, ArcGIS Pro, SPSS or R Suite.
• Effective oral, writing, and graphic design and cartography skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team, meet deadlines, and persevere through unforeseeable pressure
• Initiative, creativity, punctuality, positive learning attitude, and ability to work independently are essential.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position requires mentoring of undergraduate students and overseeing their research work and timecards.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

• Field visits to Appalachian Counties and periodic other domestic and international travels are required. Must possess a valid driver’s license and a U.S. passport.
• Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
