Position Summary:
NJIT is in the middle of an exciting Digital Transformation that will bring digital to the core of all we do. As the architects of this Digital Transformation, the Information Services and Technology (IST) division is looking for an Associate Vice President for Enterprise Application Services & Associate CIO to provide leadership and vision to our changing landscape of enterprise applications.
This position provides technology vision and leadership to architecting enterprise solutions for NJIT. A hands-on architect with proven ability to design and implement technology transformation, the AVP for Enterprise Applications & Associate CIO position will help develop and deliver on a strategy the future of NJIT's enterprise applications working collaboratively with IT leaders and campus partners.
The AVP for Enterprise Applications & Associate CIO will be forward thinking and innovative, a change maker with a technology vision, empathy, and ability to lead the adoption of contemporary enterprise systems. The successful candidate will have experience with large scale technology transformation initiatives, IT budgets, cloud infrastructure, enterprise governance, and instituting applications that enable organization wide data driven decision making. As we embark on the selection and implementation of a native SaaS-based ERP solution, this leader will have proven experience leading a large-scale ERP implementation that includes process improvement, change management, data conversion, integration redesign and reporting.
Essential Functions:
- Lead the development of a full scale enterprise applications strategy incorporating cloud architecture, integration platforms, governance, and analytics.
- Provide innovative and forward thinking leadership to the enterprise applications at NJIT, continuously championing innovation and creating a culture of continuous improvement where new thinking is appreciated.
- Lead large scale technology transformation initiatives that modernize existing enterprise applications, incorporating business process automation, integration, simplifying current processes, while incorporating much needed flexibility where applicable.
- Strengthen enterprise systems by ensuring architecture, standards and methods are documented and followed.
- Institute appropriate controls and security measures that manage the university's data. Apply risk management processes to identify, manage, and mitigate risk for all enterprise applications. Ensures appropriate policies and procedures are created and in place.
- Implement application performance management strategies, database strategies, monitoring strategies, and facilitate proactive planning to improve overall application performance for all relevant applications.
- Ensures successful functioning and operations of enterprise applications, transparently sharing key performance metrics such as availability, time to complete projects, mean time to resolve open issues, aging tickets, and campus partner satisfaction.
- Strengthen collaboration across Information Services and Technology division, with campus partners, with vendors, and with national and global entities to facilitate shared opportunities while leveraging efficiencies.
- Participate as a key member as part of the Information Services and Technology division's leadership team collaborating on strategies that benefit the division and the campus.
- Engages regularly with campus partners, including faculty, staff, students and alumni on topics and issues related to enterprise applications.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
- Significant progressive experience in managing enterprise applications strategy and large-scale deployments with cross functional teams, including financial planning, and agile deployments.
- Significant experience building and leading teams and retaining staff in today's competitive tech landscape. Experience managing and motivating team members, coupled with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment, and a commitment to customer service as part of a diverse campus.
- Demonstrated experience with architecting large scale enterprise transformation strategies.
- Hands-on experience incorporating cloud solutions, ERP, CRM solutions and analytics.
- Demonstrated ability to design governance and engagement strategies for effective decision making and collaboration in complex organizations.
- A strong understanding of business and technical aspects of information technology at an academic and research intensive university.
- Demonstrated knowledge of emerging technologies, best practices, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to act on tactical opportunities in an evolving, fast-paced environment, while continuing to build long term strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to influence the campus to consider strategic technology, influence and motivate direct team, campus partners, and vendors through communication and engaging strategies.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A master's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field is preferred.
- Prior experience leading a successful process improvement and ERP program, ideally leveraging SaaS-native platforms.
