The basics of this position:

St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley is accepting applications for a full-time faculty position in Graphic Communications in the Art Department. St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and serves approximately 100 Graphic Communications majors yearly. This position contributes to the overall work of the Graphic Communications programs, the department and college, including preparation and planning for instruction; teaching courses; assisting in student advising; participating in departmental development and committees (textbook selection, course review and revision); participating in campus and college committees, meetings, and activities.

What you'll do:

• The successful candidate is expected to be able to teach any of the following: graphic design, typography, web design, interactive design, computer graphics, and graphic design history. Preference will be given to a candidate who also has the ability to teach in other design and illustration related courses.
  
  Teaching assignments may include day, evening and weekend classes.
  • Formal course contact teaching of 15 credit hours, which may be conducted face to face and online.
  • Preparation and planning for instructing assigned classes in accordance with course objectives.
  • Preparing and correcting examinations and other student work assignments.
  • Scheduling student conferences to review individual student progress.
  • Participation in departmental development, evaluation and revision of course objectives and outlines, instructional strategies, and systems of evaluation of student learning.
  • Participation on other departmental, divisional, campus and college-wide committees.
  • Assistance in student recruitment, job placement, or transfer placement.
  • Attendance at faculty meetings and institutional ceremonies or meetings.
  • Participation in community activities.
  • Academic advising and mentoring of student majors.
  • Sponsoring the student graphics communication club.
  • The successful candidate will also actively engage the professional graphics community.

Education, experience, and other requirements:

Candidates seeking this position should have an undergraduate degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, or Interactive Design or a related field, at least five years of relevant professional experience, and one or more years of part-time or full-time teaching experience at the college level.

The candidate must possess strong communication skills and the ability to work in a studio-oriented department. Demonstrated proficiency in macOS and current graphics industry software is required. The successful candidate will be proficient in graphic design. Additional proficiency in interactive design and/ or web design is highly preferred. An expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and other industry-standard software is vital. Knowledge and education in related disciplines such as motion design, game design, and/ or illustration a plus. Commitment to interdisciplinary, conceptual, and collaborative approaches in design and electronic media is essential.
