Position Summary
SUNY Cortland has immediate openings for admissions advisor (SL-3) positions in the university’s Admissions Office. These positions will help carry out a full range of first-year and transfer admissions activities. Primary responsibilities include participation in recruitment-related travel and online events, application review, and presentations geared to prospective students and their families.
One position has a primary recruitment territory that will include Long Island and Southern New York.
One position has a primary recruitment territory that will include Western and upstate New York.
Both positions will require extensive travel, occasional evening and weekend work, and other reasonable duties to support SUNY Cortland Admissions.
Major Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Admissions application review : Facilitate the completion of admission applications and evaluate candidates as a member of application review committees.
- Recruitment travel : Manage and participate in recruitment activities including high school visits, college fairs, counselor events and other programs as assigned.
- Presentations : Develop and deliver presentations for in-person and online events, communicating effectively with various groups.
- Campus recruitment events : Participate in and help lead an array of campus events including daily information sessions, large group presentations, individual meetings and Open House programs.
- Phone and email correspondence : Answer phone calls and respond to emails from prospective students or families inquiring about SUNY Cortland.
Reports to senior associate director of admissions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least one year of experience in higher education admissions or other related department
- A willingness and ability to travel
- A valid driver’s license
- A willingness and ability to perform occasional evening and weekend work
- Master’s degree
- Familiarity with the primary recruitment territory
- At least one year of professional experience in college admissions.
- Evidence of effective communication skills, including public speaking experience
- Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
