Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Sport Management

The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, invites applicants for a nine-month, tenure-track position in the Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP), at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning as early as fall 2023. Located in beautiful and historic Charleston, South Carolina, The Citadel is a fully accredited, public, comprehensive, co-educational college with a student body of about 2,300 undergraduate students who make up the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and another 1,000 students who attend The Citadel Graduate College, a civilian evening and online program that offers graduate and professional degrees as well as undergraduate programs. For the past twelve years, U.S. News and World Report has ranked The Citadel as the top public college in the South among master's-granting institutions.

One of seven departments in the Swain Family School of Science and Mathematics, the Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP) offers the Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Sport Management. The B.S. Sport Management is offered as a day program to the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and the M.A. Sport Management as an evening program. The Citadel supports faculty research, professional development, and travel through internal funding. Salary and fringe benefits are competitive.

Position Responsibilities

Teaching responsibilities at undergraduate (B.S.) and graduate (M.A.) levels may include Intro to Sport Management, Sport Finance, Sport Facility and Risk Management, Sport Sociology, and Research Method. A normal teaching load is twelve credit hours per week with small class size (The Citadel's student -to-faculty ratio is 12:1 and the average undergraduate class size is 20). Other responsibilities include mentoring students through advising and undergraduate research, participating in curriculum revision, creating new courses, and faculty governance. The candidate is expected to achieve and maintain scholarly productivity consistent with departmental and college-wide policy for tenure and promotion. Service will include advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, serving on departmental, school, and/or college-wide committees, and assisting with the development of industry partnerships and internship sites.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Sport Management or a closely related field. Will consider those ABD eligible.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior teaching experience and excellence commensurate with the position rank being sought; evidence of mentoring and engaging undergraduate in research; a record of scholarly publications commensurate with the position rank being sought; experience developing a new course and curriculum.
