The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Counselor, NextUp/Extended Opportunities Programs and Services (EOPS), De Anza College.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction and supervision of the Dean of Student Development and EOPS and the functional and technical direction from the EOPS Assistant Director, the NextUp/Extended Opportunities Programs and Services (EOPS) Counselor will provide a wide range of counseling, and retention services to support foster youth, EOPS students and other at-risk student populations. This individual will perform core counseling functions: academic, career, and personal counseling as well as crisis intervention, outreach, college governance participation, program review and research, research counseling program and services best practices, training and professional development and other duties as assigned. This position functions as a key member of the EOPS and NextUp support teams to provide academic, career and personal counseling services to EOPS and NextUp eligible students in determining and achieving academic, vocational, and personal objectives. The incumbent will collaborate on the development and implementation of EOPS and NextUp orientation, activities, services, and facilitate and instruct study skills and career decision-making classes. Implement intake and follow-up procedures for students for the program. Participate in outreach functions that may include serving as a liaison with high schools, community-based organizations and four-year colleges/universities.
The successful candidate will refer students as appropriate to campus and community resources and services. Maintain assigned caseload of students. Collect retention, priority registration activities, course completion, and/or transfer data to report to program and campus administrators and the State Chancellor's Office. Standard duties expected of all counselors include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Counselors also have the opportunity to serve on District and college committees and participate in campus extra-curricular activities.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES:
The NextUp/EOPS Counselor is responsible for providing and coordinating delivery of core counseling services (orientation, educational planning, follow-up) in the implementation of the goals and objectives of the Student Equity Plan serving our disproportionately impacted students. Services will be provided both on-campus and off-campus in multiple ways: in-person, on-line/virtual, individual and group meetings, workshops, and other innovative ways. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct recruitment activities and assist foster youth with
matriculating into the college.
- Assist students in clarifying academic goals and selecting a
major and establishing/maintaining enrollment priority.
- Establish a rapport with students; monitor and track students'
academic progress to ensure attainment of educational goal.
- Maintain contact with students throughout their enrollment; and
use an early alert system to ensure student persistence and
success.
- Take students to career, leadership and enrichment events and
conferences and invite speakers to discuss career and transfer
options with students.
- In collaboration with the college administration, other
counselors and EOPS staff, develop effective retention
interventions to reduce the achievement gap for Foster Youth.
- Address the counseling and advising needs of academically
underprepared students; Prepare multi-year academic plans for
graduation and transfer.
- Serve as a liaison with other areas i.e., Disabled Student
Services, Psychological Services, General Counseling and academic
divisions.
- Provide orientation, career, transfer, discipline-related,
student success (study skills, time management, academic probation)
workshops.
- Provide staff development and in-service training for teaching,
coaching, and counseling faculty to educate the campus community
about foster youth and EOPS students.
- Participate in college and division assignments, college-wide
committees, and complete other departmental responsibilities.
- May teach certain counseling related courses (Introduction to
College, Career Life Planning, Life Skills in Higher Education)
designed specifically for Foster Youth and EOPS students.
- Serve as a liaison and network with on-campus and off-campus
programs, social services agencies, and community-based
organizations to address students' educational, mental/physical
health, and basic needs.
- Other duties as assigned.

HIRING RANGE: $73,799.00 - $121,204.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.
