Primary Responsibilities
- Directs the Jazz Studies program
- Teaches undergraduate courses in applied trombone study and perform in jazz/commercial and classical styles
- Teaches undergraduate courses in Jazz History, Jazz Theory, Improvisation, and Jazz Appreciation
- Leads a vibrant jazz program and conduct jazz bands and combos including the annual collaborative Big Band Holiday Jukebox concerts
- Manages all aspects of an annual Jazz Festival, including planning, marketing, budget, guest artist selection, adjudicator selection, and clinics for high school bands and directors
- Recruits and retains trombone majors
- Maintains an active professional profile through creative activity or research
- Advises and mentors undergraduate students
- Serves as a liaison and resource to public school music teachers in region
- Serves on university, college, and department level committees
Required Qualifications
As a public regional university (with a graduate mission), Southeast seeks candidates with a commitment to excellent undergraduate (and graduate) education and student success within the framework of the teacher-scholar model.
