Job Description

The Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Laboratory is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology at the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine located on the main campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA.

A postdoctoral position in cancer immunology and immunotherapy is available in the laboratory of Dr. Irving Coy Allen at Virginia Tech. The candidate will study changes in the tumor microenvironment, innate immune system activation, and induction of the adaptive anti-tumor immune response following therapeutic interventions. We utilize a variety of techniques typical in the fields of immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and medicine. The laboratory is also internationally recognized for its work employing novel, pre-clinical animal models to solve complex biomedical problems. We apply a true bench-to-bedside approach to move discoveries from the laboratory to the clinic. The project will integrate a comprehensive approach to define complex immunological changes that occur following novel tumor ablation therapies, with the ultimate goal of optimizing and improving patient outcomes. The project is NIH R01 funded. Duties will include in vitro studies, in vivo animal procedures, and human studies. Responsibilities will include experimental design and execution, data analysis, report and manuscript preparation, compliance with all health and safety regulations, and assistance with SOP development. Additional responsibilities will include teaching and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory. Ample opportunities for professional development will also be provided. The candidate will be a member of a multidisciplinary team that conducts basic, translational, and applied research and will have extensive opportunities to participate in collaborations with other laboratories at Virginia Tech and beyond.

This position will require the candidate to wear PPE and work in BSL1/BSL2 laboratory conditions.

The salary will be commensurate with experience based on university guidelines and will be based on the NIH pay scale for postdoctoral associates. Position is eligible for a full compliment of benefits to include health coverage, retirement, leave and more. Additional funds for professional development, travel and career development will also be available. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
