Position Summary
The Technical Writer-Research/Pre-Award Assistant will have the major responsibility for assisting the Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs with researching, drafting, interpreting guidelines, coordinating, and monitoring the progress of all proposals to be submitted to federal, state, local, and Foundation sources. This individual serves as a liaison between the Director and the faculty, staff, and administrator and assists them in their area with proposal preparation, processing, submission, and pre-award administration. This position reports to the Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs in:
- Gathering, and assembling data from University units and other sources to prepare proposals;
- Preparing and assembling proposals for submission to funding agencies;
- Generating proposals that are interdisciplinary or cross-departmental/college lines;
- Gathering research data associated with proposal/research project subject matter for the inclusion in proposal packages in situations where other University personnel may not be available;
- Developing workshops and seminars;
- Compiling and maintaining databases associated with grants and other office activities;
- Researching, preparing, and submitting quality major research proposals to various funding agencies;
- Pre-award activities;
- Providing technical support and assistance to faculty, staff, and administrators in writing grants;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- At least three (3) years of experience in grant writing and grant management, preferably in higher education.
- Excellence in written, oral and analytical skills.
- A team player with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university personnel, and state, federal, and private organizations.
- Knowledge of the policies and procedures which govern the retention and disposition of external funding award documentation.
- Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint) skills required.
- Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and manage time well.
