Position Details

Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job

The Department of Mass Communication at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a Lecturer-Pool faculty position concentrating on broadcast production.

Lecturer-Pool faculty are term positions hired to teach one to four courses per semester. Course requirements may include a combination of teaching on-campus classes at the main campus in Huntsville, and online classes, depending on the needs of the academic department. Lecturer-Pool faculty hiring is based upon student demand, on a semester-by-semester basis.

The Department of Mass Communication at Sam Houston State University serves more than 500 students studying journalism, broadcast production, public relations, advertising, and film. Located in the Dan Rather Communications Building, it is home to 90.5 The Kat, Channel 7, Bearkat Student Media, The Houstonian, and the annual Heatwave Media and Film Festival. The department blends research-focused and practice-oriented faculty.

Educational Requirements for the Position

MFA in Broadcast Media Production or related field.
Alternatively, a significant industry experience will be considered.

Experience Required for the Position

The successful candidate must have professional experience in a multi-camera production environment such as tv studio production, event coverage, or sports media. The successful candidate will be well versed in, and possess hands-on experience in all aspects of studio and multi-camera field production including producing, directing, technical directing, and operating the cameras. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with industry standard equipment (cameras, switchers, lights), software, and troubleshooting knowledge.
