Job Summary

The School of Public Health is searching for a clinical professor at any level—assistant, associate, or full professor—to facilitate and lead the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the integrated core curriculum for our accredited master’s in public health (MPH). We seek candidates from related areas of public health practice and curriculum design with experience in pedagogical innovation and project-based learning. 

The clinical professor will contribute to the planning, delivery, and assessment of the project-based core curriculum classes - inside and outside of the classroom - to more than 250 students annually. After the new core curriculum is launched in fall 2023, this individual will work with instructors to update and improve courses, build connections with university and community partners, and ensure academic excellence in the UM MPH program.

This position is a regular, full-time, three-year position with the opportunity for renewal. This position works for the Senior Associate Dean for Education.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop long-term strategic vision for the core curriculum overall and for a student partnership program to support the core curriculum needs
  2. Lead the development of courses in the core curriculum with other faculty and the ongoing evaluation and revision of the core curriculum, including its integration with departmental MPH curriculum.
  3. Teach and/or facilitate instruction of team-based skills, leadership, wellness, and project-based learning
  4. Consult on integrated curriculums and project-based learning
  5. Develop partnerships across campus and with alumni and community organizations that support students’ development of transferable skills, interprofessional education, and subsequent phases of the core curriculum
  6. Support and sustain faculty and graduate student instructor development in project-based learning and equity-focused and anti-racist approaches to teaching, learning, and  community engagement, including workshop and retreat opportunities
  7. Ensure alignment with Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) competencies and prepare materials for accreditation review
  8. Support fundraising opportunities to support investment in the core curriculum and its teaching faculty
  9. Supervise the work of the instructional design and students working on core course creation and revisions
  10. Publish academic papers and present at conferences and other venues on scholarship based on the development and evaluation of the new core curriculum

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to promote developing, implementing, and evaluating best practices for high-quality, high-engagement classes. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in a public health field, education, sociology, psychology, or related areas and prior experience in teaching and curriculum assessment. Experience in curriculum design and its relationship to learner experience and learning outcomes.
