POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of the Athens State University In-Service Education Center is a professional staff position responsible for the oversight, supervision and direction of projects, trainings, grants and the day-to-day activities of the In-Service Center. The director works with school districts in the designated region to develop and implement professional development activities that address the needs of the systems. The director will also be expected to be involved with activities of the college.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as the “Principal Investigator” for the following areas: Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative (AMSTI).
  • Supervise and coordinate the evaluation of all staff in the following areas: Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative (AMSTI), Alabama Science in Motion (ASIM), Alabama Technology in Motion (ATIM), and any other programs that may fall under the auspices of the In-Service Center
  • Serve as Budget Director and Business Office liaison for the Center:
     Develop and coordinate submission of the yearly budget for the Center in accordance with State Accountability Standards for Governing Board approval
     Coordinate with the AMSTI Director and the College of Education Dean the submission of the yearly budget for AMSTI and ASIM.
     Maintain monthly budget records of all expenditures and coordinate the submission of quarterly budget reports for the Inservice Center and ATIM, as well as any other programs that may fall under the auspices of the In-Service Center
     Coordinate with the AMSTI Director and the College of Education Dean to maintain monthly budget records of all expenditures and submitting quarterly budget reports for AMSTI and ASIM
     Prepare a final budget report for the Center at the end of each fiscal year, and submit to the SDE
  • Work closely with area professional development coordinators to conduct needs assessments of constituent school systems, and plan Center workshop, services, and programs accordingly
  • Supervise workshop and program implementation, including recruitment of workshop consultants, scheduling of workshops, advertisement, participant registration, and workshop/program evaluation
  • Work with the College of Education to plan trainings as appropriate
  • Plan, support and attend workshops, conferences and meetings for the region and state
  • Provide the College of Education Dean, the Governing Board and the State Department of Education an annual report that summarizes activities and programs including attendance data and evaluations
  • Work closely with COE faculty to inform curriculum and educational decisions
  • Complete other tasks as assigned

    Required Qualifications:
    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
    • Master’s Degree in Education
    • Five years’ highly successful school or system level instructional leadership experience
    • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with regional superintendents and curriculum leaders
    • Ability and flexibility to travel
    • Ability to work well with community agencies
    • Strong computer and organizational skills
    • Experience in program assessment and evaluation
    • Strong record of budget management and personnel management
    • Competence in both written and oral communication

    QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
    • Doctorate degree in Education related field
    • Three years of classroom teaching experience
    • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and adapt to changing work requirements and environment
    • Knowledge of Alabama specific curricular initiatives

    Salary Schedule:
    $73,589 - $112,741 FY23 Salary Matrix for Regional Inservice Center (RIC) DirectorsSalary will be Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
