Job Description:
Rhodes College is seeking to hire a 10-month assistant tennis coach who supports the men's and women's head tennis coaches as assigned. The assistant will direct teams in the absence of either head coach. The responsibilities include but are not limited to: designing and executing practice plans, instructing student-athletes, traveling for competition and recruiting, court maintenance, and assisting with the administrative process for team travel, program budgets, public/alumni relations, and promoting the philosophy and objectives of the Athletics Department. There will be additional opportunities for individual/group private lessons and summer camp income. 300+ annual summer campers.
The ideal candidate is someone who understands the Division III philosophy and thrives in an extremely motivated, team-oriented atmosphere. One (1) to three (3) years of coaching and/or playing experience, USPTA or PTR Teaching certifications, and k nowledge of USTA's Serve Tennis Platform are preferred. Candidates should display a strong commitment to Rhodes, SAA, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct individual workouts with players to instruct and coach
players outside of regular practice on techniques and
skills.
- Assist Head Coaches in developing teams that are competitive
within the conference, region, and nationally by maximizing the
student-athletes' talents. Promote teamwork while supporting the
educational goals of individual student-athletes. Utilize a
coaching philosophy which encourages an environment conducive to
academics and teamwork.
- Assist with recruitment. Build and develop relationships by
maintaining correspondence through phone, email, and in-person
visits. Assist Head Coaches in the evaluation and comparison of
athletic talent for prospective student-athletes based on potential
growth and development.
- Assist with equipment, apparel, and facility maintenance as
directed by Head Coach.
- Assist with administrative functions such as coordination of
team travel. Complete all credit card reconciliations, email
correspondence, returning of phone calls in a timely manner, and
meeting deadlines as directed.
- Ensure compliance with all rules and guidelines set forth by
theNCAADivisionIII, Rhodes College,SAA(Southern Athletic
Conference), and Rhodes College Athletics. Partner with compliance
office. All athletic staff should score a minimum score of 75 on
theNCAARules Test.
- Regular attendance is an essential function to perform the
duties of this position.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree
- This position requires a valid driver's license, a good driving
record, and must be insurable by the College's insurance
carrier.
- Must communicate effectively with all types of people and
establish and maintain a strong working relationship with students,
parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and other college
personnel.
- Must have the ability to work responsibly with minimal
supervision.
- Must have knowledge ofNCAArules and regulations.
Physical Demands:
Athletics - Medium Work: Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. This position involves both inside sedentary work, work on different fields/courts, and work in other fitness environments while coaching and training situations with student-athletes. Lifting required (ie. reinstalling wind screens and nets, squeegeeing courts, and organizing tennis equipment), some manual labor is expected. Evening and weekend hours in all types of weather, with travel is necessary.
