Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Assistant is responsible for serving as the primary receptionist for current and prospective students for the Financial Aid Office and assisting students with applying for financial aid and understanding how to receive financial aid.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements*
  • Greets current and prospective students in the Financial Aid Office, directing requests and questions to the appropriate party
  • Provides financial aid application guidance to students, including the process once financial aid has been approved and distributed
  • Files financial aid records and reports, posts information to records, sorts and distributes mail, copies documents, answers tel,ephone and performs similar duties
  • Computes amounts and checks totals on various financial aid reconciliation reports
  • Inputs and retrieves financial aid information in Colleague system in connection with the responsibilities of serving financial aid students
Service Excellence
  • Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College ( TCC )
  • Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, and creativity and service to the College
  • Supports the mission, values, and goals and principles of the College
Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Director of Financial Aid

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma ( GED )
  • One (1) year of experience in supporting and serving customers
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing customer service in an office environment
  • Experience working within a college or university setting
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of higher education and college financial aid programs
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships with diverse populations, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication
  • Skilled using computer applications and enterprise systems, including the Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a setting that is diverse and urban
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations

Special Instructions Summary

This is a part-time position, with a maximum of 19.5 hrs. per week. Flexibility is required as part-time work schedules may vary based on individual campus/departmental needs including evenings and weekends.

This is a closing position, with hours until 7:00 pm Monday – Thursday. Start time can be flexible.
