Job Description

The Department of Communication & Media at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professional Professor of Communication in Digital Journalism to begin fall 2023. This position is a 9-month appointment to teach primarily digital and multimedia journalism, broadcast, and other visual journalism courses, including photojournalism. This position will also be the co-advisor to the student journalism organization Island Waves. Island Waves is an award-winning, student-led news organization that has covered our campus and the community of Coastal Bend since 1993. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop new courses and help the Digital Journalism program as it moves toward expanding curricular options with both face-to-face and online instructional modes and must be willing and able to teach face-to-face.

Required Qualifications:

• PhD or MFA in Journalism, Communication, Media Studies, or a related field. Advanced ABD will be considered; degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.
  
• Prior successful teaching of undergraduate students of various skills and ability levels, academic backgrounds, and social and cultural identities.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional experience and teaching history in digital and multimedia journalism, broadcast, and other visual journalism courses, including photojournalism, and proficiency in related Adobe apps.
  
• Ability to guide students in recording and editing a digital news program, creating audio and video projects that utilize contemporary and emergent digital media practices for internet-based content.
