Brief Description of DI:

 

The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) was founded in Qatar in 2015 as a Doha-based independent institution of higher education. The Institute offers MA and PhD programs in two schools: the School of Social Sciences and Humanities and the School of Economics, Administration and Public Policy. The Institute adopts a student-centred approach to learning, promotes interdisciplinary research, and uses Arabic as the primary language of instruction, with fluency in English a requirement. DI aims to graduate researchers and practitioners who can advance knowledge and better the human condition, while upholding the highest scientific, professional and ethical standards. It provides advanced leadership-focused training that emphasizes the competencies necessary to satisfy the region’s needs in sustainable development and intellectual advancement. Brief Description of Program:

 

 

The Journalism program aims at preparing a generation of highly skilled, ethically grounded Arab journalists who are both aware of contemporary social changes and equipped with the ability to operate successfully in multiplatform news environments.

 

The program focuses on technical and professional journalistic skills and emphasizes journalistic principles of neutrality, independence, accuracy, and fairness. Program graduates will also acquire research tools and skills and broad understanding of issues in media studies, the social sciences, and humanities. Coursework emphasizes newswriting and reporting for print journalism, writing for new media, multimedia storytelling, data journalism, and video production, among other areas.

 

The Journalism MA program is to be completed over two academic years and consists of a total of 42 credit hours.  Students are also required to complete a non-credited 70-hour summer internship at a media institution located inside Qatar.

 

 

 

Job Summary:

 

 

The program is looking for a Faculty Member to teach in the Journalism Program, with experience in teaching in reputable universities. The candidate should have experience and skills in the latest media production platforms, the ability to teach these skills to graduate students and the ability to work in a team.

 

Preferably, the successful candidate should join at the beginning of AY 2023-2024 (Teaching starts in August of every year), or at the earliest after the designated date.

 

 

 

Main Responsibilities:

 

 

1- Teaching 2 courses (6 CRH) in Journalism Program according to the study plan

 

2- Supervising master's theses and/or capstone projects

 

3- Providing Academic Advising for students as per DI policy

 

4- Academic research

 

5- Service to the Community

 

 

 

Qualification, Experiences and Skills:

 

 

1- PhD degree in mass communication/or digital media / or journalism studies. 

2- Teaching experience.

 

3- Professional work experience in the media and journalism

 

4- Skills in the field of multi-media production and the ability to teach these skills

 

4- Publications in the fields of journalism and mass communication, and professional media output as appropriate.
