Associate Director- Graduate Program in the History of Art

Opening Details

The Williams Graduate Program in the History of Art seeks an ambitious, creative, and collaborative scholar, teacher, and administrator to work in support of one of the field’s most recognized programs. Reporting to the director, this position includes teaching at the graduate level and responsibility for helping to manage and deliver most aspects of the program’s operations, including curriculum, admission, internships, and communications. The associate director works closely with the Clark, which hosts the program, and also works with other partners, including the Williams College Museum of Art.

We particularly seek candidates in the field of American Art (between 1850 and the present) or European Art (between 1400 - 1700). The successful candidate will be an outstanding scholar with a strong commitment to research and publication in their field. An excellent teacher and mentor, they must maintain an ongoing interest in current debates in the field of art history in the academy, the museum, and beyond. We welcome applications from members of groups traditionally underrepresented in the field.

Please also supply a brief description (one page) of two MA level courses you might teach; two selections from publications (article, book chapter, etc), and three letters of recommendation. We ask you to write in your cover letter about your ability to work effectively with a student population that is broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.

Qualifications

• A PhD in Art History, preferably completed by June 2023
• At least two years relevant post-doctoral work experience. Candidates with less than 2 years of relevant work experience may be considered at an Assistant Director level.
• Candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills, be comfortable working with all levels of administration, faculty, staff, and students.
• Candidates should have excellent organizational skills and ability to successfully manage multiple projects with many moving parts simultaneously

Application review will begin on May 9, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled. Pay range is from $88,000 to $110,000, commensurate with experience and job level. This a staff position, job band 2-D.
