DIRECTOR OF EARLY ENTRANCE PROGRAM



California State University, Los Angeles, invites applications for the above Administrator II position.

The Position: The Director of the Early Entrance Program (EEP) is a leader in preparing young, highly capable students for success in a University setting. The Director guides the initiatives that seek younger students demonstrating readiness for college and supports efforts to promote challenging, accelerated learning opportunities in a vibrant, intellectual community. The EEP Director reports directly to the Director of the Honors College. The Director of EEP is primarily responsible for the organization and oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Program, its students and staff, which includes evaluating and continuously monitoring program priorities and goals, and on an ongoing basis, establishing, refining, recommending and implementing policies and procedures that foster the growth and development of the EEP and its students in the context of enhancing the educational mission, vision and values of Cal State LA. Promoting a culture of inclusivity and tolerance, the EEP cultivates and amplifies students' unique talents, diverse life experiences, and intellect through engaged teaching, learning, scholarship, research, and public service that support their overall success, well-being, and the greater good. The Director of EEP must be committed to nurturing this inclusive culture. Additional responsibilities include: managing the recruitment, application, and admission process of 40 to 60 students to the Honors Academy each summer; organizing and running the Honors Academy under the supervision of the Honors College Director to facilitate selection and admission of 20 to 30 new EEP students per year; serving as the primary academic counselor for EEP students and maintaining consistent communication with students and their parents within established FERPA and University guidelines; planning and implementing activities to support the academic and social development of the EEP students; coordinating the whole group educational experiences offered in HNRS 1000 to each entering Fall cohort, establishing and maintaining positive and effective relationships with the University campus community at all levels, as well as external community organizations; maintaining an alumni network and collaborating with the Honors College Director to help drive friendraising and fundraising activities with University Advancement and Public Affairs. The EEP Director also collaborates with CCOE faculty to interview, hire, and supervise the EEP Graduate Counseling Intern for each academic year. The Director of the Early Entrance Program serves as an Ex Officio member of the Honors College Steering Committee, and in that capacity has primary responsibility under the supervision of the Honors College Director for driving conversations surrounding EEP.

Required Qualifications & Experience: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Candidates for the position must have at least five years of progressive student services administration experience in positions of leadership such as with a significant secondary education or undergraduate focus and a documented record of successful planning, program implementation and evaluation, problem solving, and supervision of personnel. Candidates must be energetic, enthusiastic, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have strong data management skills. The incumbent must have general knowledge of the principals and practices of the student services arena; and of student individual and group counseling/advisement techniques, and a well-developed understanding of organizational practices and procedures specific to the university setting. The incumbent must have the ability to analyze complex situations, respond appropriately to sensitive or confidential issues, resolve conflict, and counsel students appropriately based on varied levels of student maturity; ability to carry out a variety of complex tasks without detailed instructions; assess and streamline, or as needed, develop new processes and programming to further improve program operations and effectively meet program outcomes; and establish and maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with diverse administrators, faculty, students, staff, parents, alumni, groups and organizations on and off campus. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Desired Qualifications: Master's or doctoral degree preferred; knowledge of best practices in gifted education; experience with the design and operation of special educational programs involving the assessment and academic acceleration of gifted students; knowledge of comparable programs throughout the country; knowledge of social/behavioral sciences specific to adolescent development; experience with alumni relations and/or fundraising; experience with community relations; experience with public speaking.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $4,583 - $14,713/monthly. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.

Appointment: The Administrator II appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
