Position Title
Associate Director of Clinical Services

Overview

Providence College Counseling Center is excited to announce Associate Director of Clinical Services as a new position!

Assist the Director in managing the day-to-day clinical operations of the PCC via on-site backup clinical supervision to staff and trouble shooting regarding the scheduling of students, distribution of caseloads, and flow of the triage system.

Essential Duties:
  1. Assess students emotional, psychological, developmental, and behavioral concerns that impact current level of functioning. Conduct extensive psychological interviews, formulate appropriate treatment plans, when necessary coordinate off campus hospitalization(s), psychiatric, or medical evaluations. Make referrals to appropriate resources to improve students functioning. Clinical care if provided based on ethical theories, principals, and methods. Develop a treatment plan of action aimed toward the prevention, treatment, and resolution of mental, social, emotional, and psychological dysfunction and distress. Refer to both on and off campus resources.
  2. Conduct diagnostic assessment and intervention in acute crisis such as risk of suicide, trauma, and/or major campus catastrophe. Provide crisis intervention for students who are experiencing acute emotional distress as a result of varying emergencies such as trauma (i.e. sexual assault), death, substance use, or who are a danger to themselves or others. Participate in monthly after hours on-call crisis rotation for the office. Provide psychological/clinical judgement when requested to the administration, including the Director of Personal Counseling and the Vice President of Student Affairs as indicated.
  3. Provide administrative and clinical supervision to the Triage Clinician, Administrative Coordinator, and part-time temporary staff, and non-administrative clinical staff as assigned by the Director. Conduct weekly-biweekly clinical supervision meetings to assigned non-administrative staff per assignment by the Director, including new positions being developed. Review leave requests and reports and conduct yearly performance reviews.
  4. Maintain electronic case records of clinical care and all correspondences for student on own clinical case load. Develop and management forms for clinician’s progress notes, client demographic forms, and all forms for student use in the web component portal. Work with the Director to better utilize the report functioning capabilities for data/statistical reporting.
  5. Assist the Director with leading case distribution meetings and review counselor caseloads to ensure equitable distribution of cases with attention to the PCC’s scope of services. Conduct utilization reviews with staff regarding treatment planning and session rates at a minimum of twice a semester. Review trends in data around student usage, including gathering statistics pertinent to diagnostic categories and service needs.
  6. Conduct and facilitate training on mental health to faculty, staff, and students, including meeting specific departmental requests along with specialty training.


Marginal Duties:
  1. Perform all other duties as may be required.


Education and Experience Required
  • Minimum of Ph.D, Psy.D, or Ed.D in clinical counseling psychology from an accredited institution required, and two years’ post-internship/fellowship.
  • MSW / LICSW, or closely related discipline, with clinical internship component, plus 5 years’ of experience.
  • Ability to perform psychological assessment, intervention, and treatment planning.
  • Supervision of clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Individual and group clinical counseling expertise.
  • Experience in brief and long-term therapy models.
  • Experience with young adult population.
  • Experience with diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience with mental health issues and psychological disorders.
  • Experience with emergency mental health interventions.
  • Experience providing supervision and management of clinical employees.
  • Must have knowledge and experience of specific college age related issues and concerns such as: eating disorders, substance use, sexual assault, mood and anxiety disorders, developmental states and issues, self-injury/suicide.
  • License to practice psychology in the State of Rhode Island required.
