Cardiovascular Nurse Scientist


The UCSF Department of Physiological Nursing in collaboration with the Center for Physiological Research seeks applications from nurse scientists with expertise in cardiovascular research for a new, full-time position in the In-Residence or Adjunct faculty series.

The UCSF Center for Physiologic Research (CPR) is housed in the School of Nursing and consists of a multidisciplinary team of researchers with expertise in electrocardiology, physiological monitoring, cardiovascular nursing science, cardiology, data science and biomedical engineering. The Center manages a very large ECG and physiologic (vital signs) clinical database mainly collected from UCSF adult bedside and telemetry units and supports research to identify specific predictors of adverse patient outcomes, reduce false alarm rates, and improve ECG and physiologic monitoring systems. The Center's strategic directions include expanding the critical mass of researchers with expertise in ECG and physiologic monitoring, further optimizing the clinical data stewarded by the Center, and significantly impacting healthcare delivery in acute care settings.

Faculty in the In-Residence series conduct research, advance significant scholarship, engage in teaching and mentoring, maintain professional competence, and participate in university service. Faculty in the Adjunct series focus primarily on research, with negotiated teaching and service activities.

Position Description: Major responsibilities include:
• Conduct a program of cardiovascular research
• Provide visibility at UCSF Health that supports Center research initiatives
• Provide thought leadership in the advancement of cardiovascular research nationally and internationally
• Collaborate with faculty colleagues and trainees who share an interest in cardiovascular research
• Participate in our community as a leader
• Advocate for cardiovascular research
• Advance UCSF's PRIDE Values (Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence).
• An In-Residence appointment will include teaching, mentoring of PhD students and post-doctoral fellows, university service, and service to the profession.

As a premier public university and a national and global leader in research, the UCSF School of Nursing is committed to advancing scholarship in all aspects of cardiovascular nursing science. The new faculty position will build on a long track record of UCSF leadership in cardiovascular nursing science with a particular focus on electrophysiological monitoring in acute care settings.

The selected candidate will be appointed in the Department of Physiological Nursing and affiliated with the Center for Physiological Research. The appointment will be made at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, consistent with qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

• PhD or a research doctorate equivalent to the PhD in Nursing or a related field by the time of hire
• Expertise in ECG and/or physiologic data interpretation and related monitoring systemswith a publication record evidencing the candidate research in the field
• Active, or eligible for, unencumbered RN licensure issued by CA BRN by the time of hire
• Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Post-doctoral training in cardiovascular research
• Experience with multidisciplinary research teams
• Demonstrated success in, or potential for, the development of a funded program of research
• Primary authorship in a significantjournal
• Computerprogramming skills
• Experience in teaching at the graduate level (Master's degree or higher)
• Demonstrated teaching excellence
• Demonstrated expertise in teaching and mentoring in cardiovascular nursing science and clinical practice
• Proven manager and innovator
• Excellent communications skills and ability to build a strong rapport with faculty and department managers, both within and outside of UCSF
• Leadership experience in conducting research in the cardiovascular field
• Experience working with underserved and diverse populations.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2022-23/oct-2022-salary-scales/t5-summary.pdf. The minimum base salary range for this position is $90,500 - $284,100. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan (https://ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-670.pdf) which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
