Position Announcement
The Aircraft Maintenance Technician reports to the Lead and is, with defined supervision, responsible to perform testing, adjusting, and repairing, and other general tasks related to the maintenance and repair of the aircraft systems and components on a variety of air frames in a safe and clean work environment according to manufacturer's specifications, UVU Aviation Science Repair Station (CFR Part 145) approved /accepted procedures and specifications. In addition, this position prepares and completes appropriate documentation in a timely manner.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • (50%) With defined supervision, this position performs high quality inspections, which includes opening, servicing, and maintenance of aircraft systems and components on a variety of aircraft, using proper hand tools in a timely, clean, safe and professional manner with no rework. Accurately requests general aircraft parts as needed through inventory control. Performs troubleshooting, function testing, and repairs of aircraft systems and components effectively. Examines finished work to guarantee that maintenance work attains standards to ensure the aircraft are prepared for operations. Consistently locates and uses appropriate technical data and follows verbal instructions when accomplishing assigned maintenance tasks. Operates all required ground support equipment. Communicates effectively & efficiently with supervisors. Maintains professionalism on all levels in regard to language, actions, and as defined by UVU policy.
  • (25%) Prepares various documents for record keeping purposes, as required by policy and FAA regulations. Demonstrates proficiency of work order system and completing accurate and timely discrepancies and corrective action statements, service bulletins and airworthiness directives (AD) compliance statements, final inspection and closing of discrepancies and inspections. Understands and interprets service bulletins, maintenance manuals and other specifications to ascertain the feasibility and techniques of replacing or repairing faulty or damaged components.
  • (15%) Performs end-of-shift cleanup of all hazardous materials, hoses, electrical cords, rags, etc. Tool boxes, racks and carts will be moved behind projects up against the hangar wall or behind aircraft. Attends recurring training sessions conducted in house or by manufacturers. Attends and participates in weekly and monthly meetings. Performs other related duties as assigned by Repair Station supervision.
  • (10%) Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent or (completion of two years of education from an accredited institution from a recognized trade school plus two years apprenticeship experience related to the Summary of Duties and aircraft maintenance tech certificate with A & P (Airframe and Powerplant) ratings.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Understands and interprets approved documentation, aircraft inspection programs and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CFR part 145 and 43.
  • Knowledge of Instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Skills in project management and teamwork orientation.
  • Skills in technical aptitude. Skills in time management.
  • Must have excellent communication and people skills.
  • Problem-solving and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to handle hazardous materials.
  • Ability to lift or pull objects weighing as much as 70 pounds.
  • Ability to work in awkward positions and occasionally on scaffolds or ladders.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in working with people in a team environment as well in aircraft maintenance and safety
  • Ability to maintain safety standards and work in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work out doors and sometimes in unpleasant/inclement weather.
  • Ability to verify compliance with FAA regulations, flight directives, inspections, and accompanying paperwork and records.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces when inspecting and repairing aircraft.
