Position Description

The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences in the School of Health Professions at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center invites applications for a full-time, 12-month faculty position in the Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin June 2023. The MAT program, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education, is one of six programs within the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. The mission of the MAT program is to enrich the lives of others by educating and empowering athletic training students to become confident, competent, and collaborative health care professionals who positively impact the patients and the communities they serve. The vision of the MAT program is to transform athletic training and sports medicine through excellence, professionalism, agility, resilience, and servant leadership. Those five core values of Excellence, Professionalism, Agility, Resilience, and Servant Leadership are central to the program and are reflected in everything we do. We are especially interested in qualified candidates whose personal mission, vision, and values align with those of the MAT program.

Major/Essential Functions

The successful candidate will join one of the largest programs of its kind in the world, one of the first programs ever created at a health sciences center, and one of the first athletic training programs accredited at the master’s level. Job responsibilities include:
  • Serve as Clinical Education Coordinator.
  • Teach courses in the Master of Athletic Training program and potentially in other programs in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences.
  • Coordinate student experiential learning and clinical education (i.e., establishing new sites, evaluating preceptors, and clinical education and patient tracking via clinical management software).
  • Lead the development and implementation of annual preceptor education
  • Advise MAT students.
  • Participate in scholarly activity.
  • Participate in service at the departmental, college and university levels.
  • Demonstrate a commitment toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
  • The faculty member will work collaboratively with faculty from the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Doctor of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences (ScD), Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD), Post-Professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTDP), and Doctor of Philosophy in Rehabilitation Science (PhD) within the department as well as with other departments within the School as well as Texas Tech University Athletics and other clinical sites relevant to the position.
  • Specifically define a growth plan for the future and work collaboratively to pursue those goals.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned doctoral degree in athletic training, sports medicine, or related area.
  • Knowledge of CAATE accreditation professional standards.
  • Experience managing clinical education experience.​​
  • Record of teaching experiences (didactic, clinical, contemporary expertise in athletic training).
  • Evidence of scholarly agenda and professional development.
  • Evidence of clinical education site partnership development.
  • Evidence of experience in preceptor selection, evaluation, and professional development.
  • Record of diverse teaching experiences or contemporary expertise in athletic training; special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise general medicine, pharmacology, emergency and immediate care, and/or behavioral health.
  • Record of developing and implementing simulations (including use of standardized patients).
  • Evidence of professional service.
