POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director for Student Engagement (ADSE) is responsible for contributing to the development of a retention- and development-driven engagement and activities structure that fosters community, belonging and a rich and vibrant c o-curricular environment; activities and experiences. The ADSE provides oversight for a comprehensive variety of programs and services that support the Office of Student Engagement and Inclusion, Student Affairs and the co -curricular educational goals outlined in Vanguard's Four-Year Discipleship Plan. The Assistant Director works individually and collaboratively with colleagues to design, promote, implement, and assess programs and services that contribute to and support student engagement. Efforts of the student affairs team are collaborative, critical a nd constructive, a nd align with the division's mission:
Student Affairs exists to shape campus culture, promote community and foster student success.
This is a 12-month career position that reports to the Associate Dean of Student Engagement and Inclusion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Promotes an environment where students feel their story matters, and their identities are affirmed .
  • Provides programming designed to meet the unique needs of Vanguard's diverse student body, reflect Christian values, and support the educational themes of Vanguard's Four-Year Discipleship Plan.
  • Through collaboration with faculty, staff and administration, plan and assess the following annual events:
    • Commuter Orientation and Bonfire
    • Welcome to the Neighborhood
    • All School Party
    • Lion Pride
    • Harvest Party
    • Commuter Thanksgiving
    • Humans vs. Zombies
    • Mock Rock
    • Junior Senior Banquet
    • Summer Kick Off
    • Fall and Spring Late Night Breakfast
  • Plan and facilitate programs for commuters that offer developmentally appropriate conversations which promote educational, social, personal, and spiritual growth.
  • Coordinate all commuter services: including website development and managemen t, weekly communication channels, oversees commuter spaces and community.
  • Oversee, train, mentor and advise 7 student leaders serving on the Student Engagement Intern Team/Programming Board
  • Ensure student leadership development and a holistic and inclusive social programming and engagement model.
  • Oversee the development of new and creative strategies to increase student engagement.
  • Assesses the personal development and training needs of students regarding student engagement and community building.
  • Participate in retreats, preparation, and all other student leader training related to student engagement.
  • Advocate for the needs of traditionally underrepresented students on-campus including commuter students.
  • Provides administrative support including but not limited to: handling telephone communications, dealing with administrative problems and inquiries as appropriate, serve as a primary point of contact and liaison between the program, students, and ext ernal constituencies on a range of day-to-day issues, performs data entry, data retrieval, and client-coding on university software systems (i.e. Colleague, Advise, MyVU Portal), maintains social media oversight, controls website management, manages and reconciles an annual programming budget.

  • Participates in the spiritual growth, development, care, and support of other employees assigned near position.
  • Participates in community or University committees that will enhance student engagement and success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Master's degree preferred with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration, Student Engagement or Development, Leadership, Administration, or related field.
    • Two years administrative experience with program development, budget management, and ministry with young adults or student engagement programs.
    • Maintains a lifestyle in consonance with sound Christian principles and those promulgated by the institution.
    • Knowledge and acceptance of principles and philosophies of Vanguard University.

    IDEAL CANDIDATE:
    The ideal candidates possess the following:
    • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
    • Clear understanding of theories of student engagement and success.
    • A servant leader with a strong since of collaboration.
    • Proficiency in use of computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
    SALARY:

    This position may be filled at the Coordinator, Assistant Director, or Associate Director level based on qualifications.

    Full-time position.

    $55,100 to $67,350 (Annual) / $26.49 to $32.38 (Hourly)

    Placement within the salary range is commensurate upon education and experience. Posted salary range reflects anticipated hiring scale for an Assistant Director level position.
