Description

Columbia Basin College ('CBC' or the 'College') seeks a Director for Residential Life, responsible for overseeing the Residence Life Program at CBC, including the administration of College housing for student tenants as participants in the program. The Director oversees and collaborates with the Residential Life team to cultivate strategic relationships with academic partners including but not limited to First-Year programs, Academic Success Center, Library, Student Activities and specific academic departments in developing and implementing academic initiatives in the campus residential environment. The Director is responsible for developing a balanced program of social, educational and recreational activities for residents. This position supervises the Residential Life Program staff and reports directly to the Assistant Dean for Student Conduct & Student Life.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Create a respectful community environment, promote safety, and enhance personal growth, development, and maturity of the students residing in College housing;
  • Develop and guide programs that foster the academic, interpersonal, behavioral and leadership skills for residents;
  • Develop programs and activities to support and promote student success, persistence and graduation rates;
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, documents, forms, and processes for resident conduct, rental agreements, reservation and assignments and documentation as required for the efficient and effective operation of a college student residential community;
  • Collaborate and implement an effective marketing program to achieve College occupancy goals for the residential program;
  • Assist with housing selection, and communicate operational functions, such as residence hall keys and maintenance;
  • Coordinate student check-in and check-out procedures, room changes, damage assessment charges and enlist means to correct;
  • Provide support for student residents in conflict or crisis through mediation, referral to the Counseling & Advising
  • Department, CBC’s Student Behavioral Intervention Team (SBIT), administrative intervention, or other referrals;
  • Respond to and mange interpersonal conflicts and community problems and concerns, exercising sound judgement consistent with departmental policies, goals and mission;
  • Respond to emergencies and crisis situations as needed to assist and support students and staff; coordinate and evaluate all emergency/crisis response as appropriate; provide timely information and communication in emergency situations;
  • Work closely with the Student Conduct Officer (SCO) for student conduct issues in housing; submit incident reports to SCO for evaluation of student conduct code violations and refer issues as appropriate;
  • Work closely and in regular communication with the Title IX Coordinator, Building Maintenance and Custodial Provider(s), Enrollment Management, Student Activities, Student Recruitment, and Student Records to ensure students have a positive and safe living environment;
  • Effectively represent and explain departmental positions, goals, and mission to Residential Life team and broader campus community;
  • Effectively communicate input of the Residential Life staff to the Assistant Dean for Conduct & Student Life;
  • Oversee Residential Life involvement in events that focus on recruitment, orientation and retention of students at CBC;
  • Oversee the department petition process and ensure prompt follow-up with students, parents, faculty and others providing timely resolutions of problems and concerns in manner consistent with department policies, goals and mission;
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines to include Title IX, ADA, FHA, and OCR;
  • Supervise all College housing program assessment and evaluation measures;
  • Fulfill on-call duty on a rotating basis with the Assistant Dean for Conduct & Student Life and other assigned professional staff members;
  • Serve on College committees (i.e. Student Services All Staff meetings, Student Behavioral Intervention Team (SBIT), Title IX, etc.); and
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Business Administration, Educational Policy, Educational Leadership, Adult Development, Counseling, or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • Three (3) years of experience in Residential Life program, administration and management;
  • Experience and commitment to supporting the needs of students from underrepresented populations; and
  • Experience with budget management.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership, or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with academic initiatives in a residential setting/programs at a college or university;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of college student development theory and practice;
  • Experience with analyzing and resolving conflict, team building, and group dynamics;
  • Experience with program development and assessment; and
  • Demonstrated success in cultivating relationships and expertise creating collaborative partnerships with staff, faculty, students, parents, and college stakeholder groups.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a twelve (12) month per year, full-time, administrative position. This position is overtime exempt and the typical work hours will be Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; however, this position requires flexibility to work some weekends, evenings, and when necessary, a rotating on-call schedule.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including having the ability to move materials on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc. and travel between buildings on campus. Manual dexterity and coordination are required to operate equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.

Work environment includes office and other settings as appropriate. It is a fast paced and sometimes stressful services environment. The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises.
