Assistant Professor (WOT) with the Department of Comparative Medicine

The Department of Comparative Medicine (DCM) at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time faculty position in comparative pathology at the Assistant Professor level without tenure due to funding. For assistant professors WOT, tenure-track, and all research and professorial teaching track  are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  

The base salary range for this position will be: $10,833.33- $12,500 per month ($130,000 - $150,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. 

 Since 1969, the University of Washington School of Medicine has ranked among the top five educational institutions in receipt of federal funding. This position will be expected to work with a wide variety of animal species with particular emphasis on laboratory animal species and genetically altered mice. The successful candidate will have primary operational responsibility for the departmental diagnostic laboratory. They will also participate in our NIH-funded research-training program and in our teaching program. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, an an advanced degree in a relevant area. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in clinical diagnostic, research, case management and teaching activities. The applicant will be expected to engage in excellent comparative pathology and high-level research activities. 

The DCM has a faculty of 45 primary, clinical, and affiliate veterinarians and scientists who have diverse training and expertise in laboratory animal biology and medicine, veterinary pathology, surgery, internal medicine, and aquatic animals. DCM faculty research interests are broad and include specific expertise in hematologic cancer, developmental immunology, inflammatory lung disease, innate immunity, inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer, comparative pathology, nutrition/metabolism, embryonic stem cell biology, and aging.  Additional information about the Department can be found at the following website: https://www.washington.edu/compmed/
