Central Connecticut State University invites applications for a Cloud Infrastructure Administrator in the Department of Information Technology. The Cloud Infrastructure Administrator provides assistance with cloud and lab-based projects that support the pedagogical needs of faculty. This includes the provisioning of servers, deployment of software, automating processes, image creation, and assisting in the design and testing of the infrastructure to ensure meeting the needs of faculty.


May lead/supervise support staff as assigned.

Position Responsibilities:

Deploys, installs, configures, and operates cloud technology.

Provides technological solutions/proposals for academic courses where the need for lab-based or electronic technology exists including electronic labs, specialized software, or specific image requirements.

Applies basic understanding of multiple operating systems and cloud providers, topologies, and configurations as needed or required by academic classes and maintains overall understanding of support requirements from regional, local, or national accreditation standards.

Partners with other members of Information Technology to ensure student and faculty supportability, onsite support, and system engineering practices are aligned to the needs of virtual classes.

Stays current with technology changes and updates with a focus on Linux, Windows-based System Administration, for one or more infrastructure/cloud infrastructure components including security, systems, database, networking, storage, backup, account lifecycle, identity management, federation, and single sign-on (SSO).

Assists with the end-to-end integration of infrastructure/cloud infrastructure components such as Software as a Service, Infrastructure as a Service, and Platform as a Service, to enable the effective and efficient delivery of enterprise services and academic computing.

Develops automated procedures using a variety of scripting and programming languages.

Create and maintains appropriate documentation on procedures, configurations, and equipment inventory.

Works directly with vendors and technical support personnel on equipment and software purchases, as well as support and maintenance contracts.

Provides direct support to faculty and students in the use of cloud technology.

Provides input to Director of Cloud Infrastructure and Auxiliary Services so director can make informed decisions regarding the implementation of various cloud resources.

Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Information Security or related field and three years’ experience with installation, configuration, administration, maintenance, and support of Windows or Linux based systems and services in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure providers such as AWS or Azure.
  • Experience with administration of a virtualized serve
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
Credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above may also be considered.

Nicknamed “the Hardware City” for its rich industrial heritage, it is home to Stanley Black & Decker. New Britain’s population is characterized by a high degree of racial and ethnic diversity. Currently, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates 70% of the population as White, 13% as Black or African American, 3% as Asian, and 0.2% as American Indian or Alaska Native. Currently 4.6% of New Britain’s population identify themselves in more than one racial category and 43% of New Britain’s population identify themselves as Hispanic or Latino. Fifty percent (50%) speak a language other than English in the home and 19% were born internationally. Significant portions of its population come from Puerto Rico and Poland or consider themselves to be from the African-American, Italian, or Irish ethnic backgrounds. In addition to all that greater Hartford provides, New Britain is 40 minutes from Springfield, Massachusetts two hours from Boston, and two hours from New York City. It is also part of the Hartford-Springfield “Knowledge Corridor” and, therefore, within easy driving distance of a host of private and public institutions of higher education and many cultural opportunities.

The Cloud Infrastructure Administrator is compensated at the Administrator 3 salary level in accordance with the State University Organization of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF) Collective Bargaining Union Agreement.
