Position Announcement
The Department of Health Care Diagnostics & Therapeutics at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) faculty position, to begin Fall Semester 2023. The EMS programs, including EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic, are located at the University's Taylor Health Sciences building and are designed to prepare students for career opportunities in pre-hospital emergency care, such as ambulance, fire department, search and rescue, law enforcement, and volunteer service. Responsibilities
- Provide EMS course instruction and clinical supervision.
- Assist in the development of curriculum for all three programs, including course design and materials.
- Ensure the program meets all regulatory and CoAEMSP accreditation requirements.
- Assistant in recruitment and training of program faculty and staff to ensure effective delivery of the program curriculum.
- Monitor student progress, provide feedback and support, and facilitate remediation as needed.
- Collaborate with other educational institutions, healthcare providers, and industry partners to maintain current knowledge and best practices in the field of emergency medical services.
- Collaborate with other UT programs, faculty, and staff to implement interprofessional experiences among programs and students.
- Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with all regulations and standards, including those related to CoAEMSP accreditation.
- Prepare for and participate in CoAEMSP accreditation site visits and assessments, and implement changes as directed by program director.
- Ensure that program evaluations and assessments are completed on a regular basis, and implement changes as needed.
- Maintain accurate student records and ensure that they are kept confidential.
- Participate in community outreach and marketing efforts to promote the program and increase enrollment.
- Develop and maintain relationships with employers and other stakeholders to ensure that the program meets the needs of the local job market.
- Initiate, facilitate and maintain liaison with community EMS professionals, educational programs, and advisory committees; assist in the development of contracts with community health agencies.
- Assure compliance with OSHA standards for infection control.
- Assist with student recruitment, advisement, placement, and follow-up efforts.
- Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with all regulations and standards, including those related to CoAEMSP accreditation.
- Improve professionally and maintain currency in the field.
- Collaborate with other educational institutions, healthcare providers, and industry partners to maintain current knowledge and best practices in the field of emergency medical services.
- Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with all regulations and standards, including those related to CoAEMSP accreditation.
- Perform defined campus-wide duties, including holding office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, and adherence to college, division, and university policies and procedures.
- Master’s degree in an educational or healthcare field required.
- Must be a currently certified Utah EMT-Paramedic, or eligible for licensure in Utah within six months of hire.
- Must be certified as an EMT-Paramedic Course Coordinator or eligible for certification within six months of hire.
- Must have Utah EMS Instructor Endorsement, ACLS Instructor Certification, CPR Instructor Certification, and PALS Instructor Certification.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in paramedicine, including teaching experience.
- Experience in pre-hospital care, education and/or experience as a provider or supervisor of pre-hospital care required.
- Successful teaching experience in emergency medicine/emergency response field.
- Ability to develop innovative curricula and appropriate course content, relative to current trends and methodologies in EMS education.
- Knowledge of computer-based technology as used in clinical and educational environments.
- Knowledge of state and national regulations governing paramedic education, as well as CoAEMSP accreditation standards and requirements.
- Proven skill in leadership and management, including budgeting, faculty/staff development, and faculty/staff evaluation.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to represent the EMS programs and Utah Tech University to campus stakeholders, community members, accrediting bodies, etc.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to work evening and Saturday instruction in classes and clinicals as needed.
POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service, as well as pay and benefits, begins July 1, 2023. Annual salary of $57,000+ depending upon qualifications & experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
