Job Description

Montgomery College, Office of Financial Aid, Central Services, has a need for two full-time Financial Aid Specialists. The work schedule is Monday – Friday, between 8:30 a. m to 5:00 p.m. Some nights and weekends maybe required.

This is a bargaining, non-exempt, grade 25 position. For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, diversity, and inclusiveness.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Advise students and their family representatives regarding financial aid regulations, application policies and procedures, methods used to determine eligibility, specific program requirements and limits, disbursement and appeal procedures, requirements for continued eligibility, and related financial matters .
  • Assist students in completing the application process.
  • Evaluate financial aid applications and determines financial aid eligibility in accordance with state, federal and institutional policies governing financial aid.
  • Assist students in completing the application process.
  • Award financial aid to eligible students using established guidelines.
  • Maintain statistical data and review generated reports.
Required Qualifications :
  • Associate’s degree.
  • Three years of experience in working in a student Financial Aid Office, or the equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Working knowledge of current Student Financial Aid Office policies and procedures, state and federal financial aid regulations and policies, and institutional policies governing financial aid.
  • Strong customer service experience and skills for public interactions.
  • Skilled in interpersonal relations (including serving a diverse community) with ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, and work effectively with others within and outside of the institution.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships.
  • Thorough knowledge of office procedures ad practices with ability to set priorities and handle multiple tasks in a demanding office environment.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a college or university financial aid office with Title IV funding experience.
  • Experience working with student loan programs
Salary Range $26.88 to $34.93 per hour. Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity. Please note: New hires are typically placed between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range.
