Job Summary

The SJSU Connie L. Lurie College of Education prepares transformative educators, counselors, therapists, school and community leaders through teaching, research, and service and is grounded in an emancipatory stance. Reporting to the Dean of the Lurie College of Education and the Director of Resources and Operations, the Community Engagement Specialist will lead and implement the college's strategy for designing and managing communications and events that amplify the college's profile.

The Community Engagement Specialist will curate the website, blog, social media, print, video, audio, photo, and graphic design communications that are appropriate for various audiences, such as students, faculty, staff, alumni, external stakeholders, and other Lurie College departments and offices. The coordinator will also collaborate with the Dean's Office, Student Success Center, Institute for Emancipatory Education, and other key personnel to execute in-person and online events that establish the Lurie College of Education as a prominent college in the region and in relation to peer institutions. The specialist must be able to manage multiple projects, effectively work with staff, faculty, and students for the completion of tasks and projects, and effectively establish and maintain working relationships within a diverse environment to create an inclusive environment for all employees and students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage from conceptualization to implementation of long and short-term communication initiatives for the college's internal and external constituents such as faculty staff, students, CSU administrators, alumni, donors, and industry and government partners
  • Manage communications, user experience, accessibility, and search engine optimization through frequent development and maintenance of Lurie College websites
  • Manage engaging multimedia content - graphic designs, photos, videos, etc. - and coordinate communications of regular student and faculty/staff newsletters, blog posts, and social media posts as well as periodic prospective student, alumni, and community partner newsletters
  • Engage current students, alumni, prospective, students, etc. through Dean’s Office online accounts on Discord, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube
  • Manage digital enrollment marketing initiatives
  • Design, coordinate, and disseminate annual impact report for external stakeholders
  • Design flyers, posters, slideshows, and other communication materials
  • Create and manage targeted advertisements on Google and social media
  • Advise the dean on initiatives and outreach efforts with industry, government agencies, other universities and the community
  • Hire, train, and supervise student assistant(s) in communication support
  • Lead coordination, promotion, and execution of in-person and online college wide events including College Forums and Retreats, Student Welcome, Dean's Scholars Honors Ceremony, Learning Showcase, Honors Convocation
  • Coordinate all communications including timelines, video, script, program, procession, marketing materials, and online content
  • Assists in the coordination, preparation and execution of large-scale events both on and off campus
  • Hire, train, and supervise student assistant(s)
  • Manage Lurie College portal for college committee directories, calendars, faculty and staff resources
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge and experience in project management tools, marketing automation platforms such as Marketo, social media platforms, and content management systems such as Omni CMS and Wordpress
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven writing environment of multiple projects and quick turn-around requirements
  • Strong understanding of web, social, and digital content best practices relating to user experience, accessibility, and audience segments
  • Expertise understanding a subject’s “voice” and effectively applying knowledge and insights into effective messaging for delivery through multiple channels
  • Familiarity with way to post on social, from use of native platforms as well as scheduling tools such as Hootsuite
  • Experience with creating multimedia content on platforms such as Canva and the Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Excellent communications skills and presence at all levels and for all audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to earn credibility and influence opinion leaders
  • Proficiency in organizing and executing engaging and accessible online events using platforms such as Zoom, Google Slides, and YouTube
  • Understanding of brand management principles
  • Understanding of how to use analytics to inform decision making
  • Capacity to write and synthesize complex materials and communicate highly technical information in a manner easily understood
  • Excellent writer who can crystallize complex subject matter quickly and concisely
  • Creativity in problem solving as well as creating new content
  • Inspire and manage creative agencies and individual contributors ranging from writers and designers to illustrators and videographers
  • Judgement on how to handle nuanced, difficult topics under public scrutiny
  • Fast-thinker who can solve problems both alone and with teammates in real-time
Required Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training
  • Four years of administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with digital and social media marketing, producing and editing photos, videos and live content
  • Experience working within an academic setting
  • Demonstrated excellent written communication skills


Compensation

Classification: Administrative Analyst/Specialist – Exempt II
Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,037/month - $6,500/month
CSU Salary Range: $5,022/month - $9,083/month

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
