ENGINEERING LABORATORY MANAGER

Bridgewater College is expanding its fabrication and machining lab facilities in support of its new Engineering major and seeks an experienced prototyping and fabrication machinist to manage these facilities.  This full-time position includes responsibilities for all aspects of the student experience in our fabrication lab and includes teaching courses with a design and fabrication focus, as well as managing student use of fabrication facilities and equipment.  The position will start by August 2023 but the start date is flexible.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities for this position include management of all aspects of an effective fabrication facility that supports students in the engineering program as well as instructing students in courses and labs.  Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Teaching courses or laboratories in engineering design courses at the introductory level and upper level. Acquire, set up, and test equipment for fabrication spaces and engineering labs. Maintain, repair, and replace equipment as needed. Track inventory, upkeep and repair expenses, and capital spending for labs and fabrication spaces. Train students and faculty in the safe use of machining, fabrication, and other equipment. Create and maintain standards for operating procedures for equipment, including safety procedures Supervise student assistants and interns who have responsibilities in laboratories and fabrication spaces Manage the day-to-day operations of fabrication labs and spaces

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred 5+ years of training or experience in machining and fabrication preferred Teaching experience at the undergraduate level preferred Experience with Solidworks, CAD and/or other design software required Experience with fabrication and machining process and equipment required

Pay is competitive, and salary is commensurate with experience. This full-time position offers a full benefits package, including paid tuition at the College for eligible dependents.
