Position Description

Contributes to the university's mission through teaching in an area of expertise, mentoring students in professional and career preparation and serving as liaison with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program. This is a non-tenure track, multi-year renewable appointment contingent on successful annual and cumulative performance appraisals as well as a majority affirmative vote of the academic unit. Summer appointments possible, but not guaranteed, contingent on demand for courses and availability of funding.

About the Department and/or College

The Area of Marketing and Supply Chain Management offers a Bachelor of Business Administration in both Marketing and Supply Chain Management. In addition, students can enhance their abilities by completing a concentration in sales or supply chain management. The area also offers an online MS in Marketing Research & Analytics degree. The area currently has 24 faculty members and 9 doctoral students. Our award-winning faculty members publish research in top journals in the field and are subject-matter experts in consumer behavior, marketing theory, marketing strategy, sales management, and supply chain management. The area takes pride in excellence in teaching and has been awarded the Texas Tech University Departmental Excellence in Teaching Award. In the fall of 2018, the area launched the Center for Sales & Customer Relationship Excellence.

The Rawls College of Business is AACSB accredited. Rawls College is dedicated to fostering a community in which all students, staff and faculty feel accepted and appreciated. We exist in an interconnected world and strive to educate our students to become globally conscious business leaders. To that end, we encourage our students, staff and faculty to recognize and value diverse perspectives throughout their careers. It offers a BBA degree with majors in accounting, energy commerce, finance, information systems, marketing, management, and supply chain management. It has three MBA program formats: Professional MBA, Online MBA, and the STEM MBA. It also offers MS degrees in accounting, data science, finance, and marketing research and analytics. In addition, it offers a Ph.D. with concentrations in accounting, finance, information systems & quantitative science, management, and marketing. It has 78 tenured or tenure-track faculty members and 52 non-tenure-track faculty members. The college has approximately 5,000 undergraduate, 800 masters, and 60 doctoral students.

Texas Tech University is a Carnegie Very High Research Activity University (Tier 1) and a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) with approximately 40,000 students. Major/Essential Functions  

Texas Tech University invites applications and nominations for a Professor of Practice (open rank) position in the Marketing and Supply Chain Management Area at the Rawls College of Business to serve as the director of the Center for Sales and Customer Relationship Excellence. This non‐tenure track position is open to all ranks (assistant, associate, or full). Professional experience in personal selling and/or sales management is expected. Professors of practice are expected to teach 3 courses per semester and can be considered for continuing appointment after 6 years. Expectations and duties of the position include:

  • Represent the Center in the University and the community.
  • Establish the center’s programs focused on student and professional engagement.
  • Build, organize and coordinate community outreach and involvement for the center focusing on extensive and intensive engagement with sales organizations.
  • Organize and coordinate co-curricular programming for students such as internship and mentor programs, immersive experiences, and sales competitions.
  • Attract, engage, and build partnerships with corporations, and individuals with the objective of making the students career-ready for sales professions.
  • Engage with sales and marketing faculty to promote research in sales.
  • Create, engage in, and contribute substantially to fundraising efforts for the center.
  • Conduct workshops for the center and, based on experience and background, teach sales courses.

Service duties include program‐building, as well as commitment to extra‐curricular activities. Service to the department, college, and university is expected.

Required Qualifications Candidates must possess a graduate business degree in marketing, sales, or a closely related field or professional experience sufficient to substitute for a graduate degree. Preference will be given to candidates with significant and meaningful industry work experience in personal selling and sales management roles or a Ph.D. in marketing or sales, university level teaching expertise in sales courses or evidence of teaching potential, exceptional communication skills, and a student- centered service orientation. A demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving diverse student populations and experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable.
