Job Duties:
The Director of Alumni Affairs reports directly to the Assistant Vice President of External and Alumni Affairs and is responsible for developing and sustaining relationships with Athens State Alumni and the Alumni Association to increase engagement of alumni with the University. The Director of Alumni Affairs is primarily responsible for the cultivation and stewardship of university alumni.
DUTIES:
  • Actively recruit, cultivate, and steward relationships with diverse alumni and friends of the University.
  • Lead and create alumni engagement opportunities for alumni to engage in University activities and events.
  • Liaison with the Alumni Association and work closely with the Alumni Board of Directors to ensure that the University has an active and vibrant Alumni Association.
  • Plans and conducts area alumni social functions.
  • Welcome new graduates to the Alumni Association during each commencement lineup.
  • Manage Homecoming and 50-year club activities and outreach to alumni.
  • Contribute to the development of alumni materials including the alumni magazine, brochures, case statements, and other media that support Advancement's goals.
  • Works with the Advancement Department to help with raising funds or planned giving projects especially with alumni.
  • Works with Admissions and/or Recruitment Office to develop, carry out and oversee strategies and activities to effectively involve alumni in the recruitment process.
  • Works with the Career Development and Placement Office to develop a program of job assistance for alumni.
  • Prepare and complete reports in a timely fashion to document activities related to Advancement goals and objectives.
  • Actively participate in updating and enhancing the Advancement database through the Salesforce CRM platform to ensure information is current and accurate.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing work scope and tasks based upon need.
  • Assist with Advancement projects and events as needed.
  • Position requires some travel and a commitment to working some evenings and weekends.


Required Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate to diverse constituencies
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Working knowledge in support strategies and techniques used to engage broad community
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing work scope and tasks based on need.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to work practices and offers viable solutions for implementation.
  • Proactively engage in problem solving related to tasks in this position with internal and external constituencies.
  • Routinely practice self-monitoring by assessing self to make improvements or take corrective action to improve performance.
  • Ability to oversee and manage numerous projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and other office tools.



QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
  • Experience in higher education preferred.
