Job Description

The Department of Sociology at Virginia Tech, in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, invites applications for a one-year Instructor position to begin August 10, 2023.

This position will provide undergraduate teaching support for the Department of Sociology. Areas of specialization are open. The position will involve teaching required courses including Introduction to Sociology, Research Methods, and elective courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach quantitative methods, statistics, and/or criminology.

The position requires a 4/4 teaching load. Candidates should be prepared to teach in person as well as using online modalities.

We seek dynamic and collaborative candidates who demonstrate excellent evidence of teaching and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Department of Sociology is recognized for excellence in research, teaching, and community outreach. The department offers a degree in Sociology at the bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels. The undergraduate level includes two majors–Sociology and Criminology.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Sociology or Criminology in hand by August 2023. ABDs will be considered if degree completion will occur in Fall 2023.
