Geology & Environmental Earth Science: A Postdoctoral Fellow is sought to support a project investigating the effect of high energy shock on natural and modified minerals for the purpose of technology development. This project is an excellent opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary setting and collaborate with faculty in geology, engineering, and physics and numerous undergraduate and graduate students. Our inclusive lab environment enables extensive collaboration. Extensive mentoring will be provided for the post-doctoral associate. Areas of mentoring will include professional development and leadership for industry and academia, student management skills, work-life balance, DEI training, technical training and leadership training. The position will work with Drs. Catherine Almquist, Mithun Bhowmick, and Mark Krekeler. The post-doctoral associate is expected to contribute both as a lead author and co-author for peer-review publications, patents, and abstracts.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to articles and proposals through writing, collect data, develop intellectual property materials, assist in mentoring undergraduates, and assist in mentoring graduate students.

Required: Ph.D. in geosciences, chemistry, materials science & engineering, chemical engineering, or physics or closely related field by date of appointment with a strong background in working with instrumentation.   

Consideration may be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in the area of mineralogy, materials science and engineering, mineral physics, solid state physics, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry or closely related field; demonstrated skills or experience with transmission electron microscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy; strong writing skills, people skills, and evidence of positive interactions with undergraduate and/or graduate students.
