Wright State University seeks a competent leader of character to join our vibrant community as Dean of the Raj Soin College of Business (RSCoB). The next Dean will be committed to leading the advancement and ongoing success of one of the area’s most accessible colleges. Located in Dayton, Ohio, known for its long history of innovation, the RSCoB is recognized for providing a high-quality educational experience at a lower tuition rate compared to other leading Ohio schools. In recent years, we have further strengthened our reputation through excellent faculty recruitment and research, online offerings, maintaining three accreditations, innovative joint-degree programs, and flourishing industry partnerships.

The next Dean of the RSCoB will lead the college with dynamic and visionary leadership to achieve our mission of enabling our students and regional business stakeholders to discover, develop, and realize their highest potential through our teaching, research, and outreach efforts. The Dean must be prepared to support varied undergraduate and Masters-level programs, lead a diverse faculty, and both uphold existing collaborative partnerships while simultaneously developing new ones across the university and the community. This is an outstanding opportunity for a creative and energetic individual who will be well supported in leading a college aligned with the university’s mission of integrating learning, research, innovation, and experience to empower all students to excel in their lives and chosen careers. The Dean serves as principal officer for the college and represents it in a wide range of settings with different stakeholder groups. The Dean also oversees the daily operation of the college while holding research and student success, including student recruitment and retention, as fundamental priorities. The Dean reports to the Provost and works closely with Wright State University leadership to formulate and implement university policy.

Essential Functions

Leadership (40%)

  • Provide leadership and direction to a wide range of individuals, including supervising six department chairs and their respective faculty.
  • Provide leadership to a diverse academic community which offers 12 undergraduate programs, 10 minors, 10 certificate programs, and six Master’s degrees, including a variety of other joint-degree programs
  • Formulate and implement college goals and policy supporting student success.
  • Maintain AACSB and other accreditations.

Strategic Planning (25%)

  • Collaborate with other administrators, faculty, and staff to develop, implement and ensure progress on the college’s and university’s strategic plans
  • Champion faculty and staff development and retention
  • Enhance the research culture and profile of the college.
  • Actively pursue diversity awareness and planning

Operational and Change Management (20%)

  • Promote student success.
  • Prioritize student recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Encourage relations with student and community organizations and industry
  • Maintain and foster collegiate partnership initiatives.

Financial, Resource, and Risk Management (15%)

  • Resource allocation
  • Budget management
  • Fundraising
  • Personnel administration

Required Qualifications

  • An earned graduate degree in a discipline related to programs offered by RSCoB.
  • At least three years of relevant administrative experience
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate or terminal degree in a discipline related to programs offered by RSCoB.
  • A record of professional accomplishments and scholarship that meets the qualifications for the rank of professor in a department of the college.
  • A credible academic with demonstrated excellence in research and teaching combined with substantial administrative, personnel, and budgetary experience as chairperson or equivalent.
  • Evidence of a commitment to, and success in, securing external funding including private and corporate gifts
  • Evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusivity, and embraces a social justice mindset.
  • Experience in curriculum development including being open to innovative pedagogies, promoting interdisciplinary projects, and internationalization of the curriculum.
  • Experience with student recruitment and retention, as well as accreditation, including AACSB.
  • Evidence of developing and nurturing beneficial relationships with a range of individuals, including a commitment to foster interaction between colleges and professional schools.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop constructive and collaborative working relationships with community partnerships, and to promote workforce development.
  • Proven track record of recruiting, nurturing, and retaining top talent.
  • Highly articulate, with the skills to be an inspirational and engaging communicator with faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members, as well as an attentive and intuitive listener.
  • Demonstrated commitment to data-informed decision making and a collaborative and transparent decision mode for policy development and implementation.
  • Personal characteristics that include openness, energy, intellect, dignity, integrity, optimism, and a team-builder
