- Under the direction of the Assistant Controller, the Staff
Accountant supports the Finance Department by reconciling and
analyzing general ledger accounts on a monthly, quarterly &
annual basis. Responsibilities include journal entries, account
analysis and related research.
Essential Functions
- Manage the month-end general ledger closing process/reconciliation listing - update monthly
- Responsible for the collection of data and data entry for recurring journal entry transactions - such as dining hall; mail services, prepaid expenses, and monthly accruals; as well as other adjusting entries requested by individual departments.
- Completes monthly bank account reconciliations including Operating, Class Loan & Raffle by stated deadlines.
- Various monthly & quarterly account analysis including petty cash.
- Utilizes accounting knowledge, judgment, and reconciliation tools to identify transactions and resolve any discrepancies or accounting issues.
- Assist the Assistant Controller in maintaining the fixed asset records of the University
- Acts as a liaison between university departments and outsourced dining hall to facilitate guest meal cards.
- Provides support to university departments that have questions on their budget reports.
- Participates in the annual audits and prepares reports and schedules/confirmations for audits and tax Form 990.
- Account’s Payable function support– including invoice entry, check printing and Amex integrations.
- Assist with 1099 processing and mailing.
- Supporting in financial system upgrades and testing.
- Completing additional projects and other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent and 1-2 years’ experience in Accounting or Finance
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting principles (GAAP) and procedures.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities
- Detail oriented with ability to maintain accuracy while working on a variety of tasks
- Ability to work in a fast paced, team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skill
- Strong computer literacy, specifically in Excel. Microsoft Dynamics a plus.
- Excellent observation skills, inquisitive personality, and talent for collaboration.
- Ability to analyze business processes and data and confidence to make recommendations based on those evaluations.
- Accounting experience within a college or university or other large non-profit organization is highly desired.
