Academic Program Specialist

Position Summary: The Academic Program Specialist position is a full-time employment opportunity. Reporting to the the Academic

Program Specialist will recruit, advise, schedule students and faculty, and manage the operational needs of the nursing programs. As the champion for the nursing program, this administrative position will be responsible for delivering a highquality student learning experience evidenced through enrollment growth, retention, and a streamlined student-centered process, as herein described.

Requirements: Candidates for this position must hold a minimum of a master's degree in educational or organizational leadership, from an accredited institution. Additionally, candidates must have training or experience using technology to streamline processes, optimize communication, and have a history of working with diverse populations of adult learners. Professional field experience is highly desirable.

The candidate will revitalize, supervise, and market the online accelerated programs and prelicensure pathway degree as detailed in the following duties and responsibilities that consist of recruiting, advising, and managing the operational needs of the nursing programs.

Recruiting

1. Provide support for online program publicity and recruitment in concert with Admissions, Financial Aid, Registration, Marketing, and Faculty.

2. Responsible for meeting the new student recruitment goals for the nursing programs.

3. Assist in developing a collaborative working relationship with the community, private industry, and government leaders to offer the nursing programs.

4. Establish a marketing campaign to promote the nursing programs to external organizations including education, business, industries, and government agencies within the global community, and ensure proper follow up.

5. Participate, organize, or deliver information sessions as needed at the University and off-site locations for the nursing programs.

6. Follow up on new leads developed through the University's marketing campaign for the nursing programs.

7. Support alumni and current student involvement in recruitment and general orientation programs and activities.

Advisining

Provide "entry" and "exit" interviews with nursing students.

Work with the Director of the Student Success Center to assist students in developing a degree program outline and plan for completion of coursework and degree requirements.

Ensure the resolution of student issues in a prompt manner.

Work with the Registrar and Director of the Student Success Center to ensure continuing and re-entry students are advised and registered according to degree completion plans.

Registers, troubleshoots, and resolves admissions and registration issues for customers and other areas of the college.

Motivate students to complete the nursing program according to timeline.

Program Coordination and Development

Undertake program coordination and professional development activities to establish and maintain an effective quality assurance structure and process for the nursing program.

Assist with the recruitment and assignment of online and on-ground faculty and adjunct faculty pool. Review adjunct candidate qualifications with the Program Director, Chief Nursing Officer, Chairperson if appropriate and the Dean for a credential approval for the adjunct to teach a specific course.

Participate in the periodic evaluation on the effectiveness of the nursing program, recruitment, and outreach efforts.

Participate in the process of leading faculty through program assessment and assist in using that data to revise the curriculum in a cycle of continuous improvement.

Work with appropriate staff to update and maintain the nursing website.

Work with appropriate staff to hire faculty as needed for the nursing program.

Assist in faculty assessment in the nursing program.

Maintain a deep knowledge of assigned STU nursing programs and services.

Work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the students and the University (peak registration and weekends if needed occasionally), including some evening per week and extended hours during peak registration.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and assorted office equipment/machines. Flexible work schedule required; overnight travel, evening and weekend work required. Traveling is required and incumbent must have access to dependable travel means.

Supervision Received:

Routine assignments are performed independently following University and departmental policies and procedures.

Supervision Exercised:

No supervisory responsibility, but, incumbent may train and direct work of college work-study students.

Position Qualifications/Specifications:

Master's degree required (exceptions can be made based on level of experience).

Demonstrated success supporting adult learners through academic program lifecycle.

Experience in marketing, public relations, and cultures as applied to student recruitment preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Bilingual (English/Spanish/Creole) helpful, but not required.

Familiarity with personal computers and software (e.g., MS Word/Excel/Access) and experience with mainframe systems preferred.

Professional appearance and demeanor.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills needed to accomplish several ongoing assignments simultaneously.

Must be able to work under pressure, meet established deadlines and exercise tact when dealing with difficult people on the telephone or in person.

Position requires extensive travel and irregular work hours. Must have a willingness to work a flexible schedule and commit to evenings/weekends for special events and/or emergencies.

Works regularly with information requiring utmost discretion and integrity. Physical requirements are within the normal bounds of an office environment but may include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds.

Tuition Benefit

After 1 year of continuous full‐time service, employees are eligible to enroll in STU’s bachelor and master courses, tuition‐free. The program will cover a maximum timeframe of 125% of credit hours attempted toward the degree program. Employees may enroll in STU’s doctoral program, with a 40% tuition discount, under the same conditions.
