Position Announcement

The Library at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Librarian faculty position, responsible for designing, assessing, and coordinating library and course integrated information literacy instruction and assisting with departmental and divisional assessment, starting July 1, 2023. This position provides leadership that enhances the value of the library to its users and the institution by overseeing assessment of users’ needs, including space planning, coordinating marketing strategies intended to improve the use and application of library resources across the curriculum, provide reference services that enhance the students’ academic needs, and provide instruction and materials for liaison areas as needed.   • Develop, coordinate, teach, evaluate and schedule library research classes, in collaboration with the library and instructional faculty, including a web-based credit course.
  • Collaborate with library faculty, and others, to design and apply formative and summative assessment to library instruction and other Library and Open Learning Services departmental and division programs.
  • Develop and assess the instruction program (curriculum mapping, developing learning outcomes, and assessment of these outcomes).
  • Work with faculty in other departments (liaison) to develop materials, order materials, and give bibliographic instruction to students.
  • Provide reference services both in-person and chat/online, including evenings and weekends.
  • Serve on the University Curriculum Committee and General Education Committee and is the curriculum expert for development of new Library and Open Learning Services courses.
  • Supervise weekend library staff.
  • Provide outreach and instruction to distance sites, including managing content of distance education web page.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned, including additional committee work at the institutional level as well as with the library consortium.

Minimum/Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Library Sciences from an Institution accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Experience teaching research methods, information literacy, bibliographic and library instruction sessions to students and other patrons in one-on-one, classroom, and/or distance mediated instructional settings.
  • Demonstrated experience designing qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method assessment of library programs and services.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, especially in the area of negotiation.
  • Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with library colleagues, students, faculty, staff, other libraries, other agencies, and the public.
  • Strong technology skills and experience with a variety of online databases and resources.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least three (3) years’ professional experience working with an integrated library system.
  • Experience working with library users of diverse ages, as well as from various socioeconomic, cultural and academic backgrounds.
  • Experience or familiarity with learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.) and open educational resources (OER).
  • Familiarity with current national initiatives, methods, and standards such as IPEDS, ARL/ACRL statistics surveys, ACRL Standards with Libraries in Higher Education, etc.
  • Experience or familiarity with curriculum development.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (12-month) tenure-track faculty position, with occasional evening/weekend work. Desired start date of July 1, 2023. Annual salary of $54.000+ depending upon qualifications & experience.
