A Postdoctoral Research Associate position in supported metal atom and cluster catalysis is immediately available in Professor Jingyue (Jimmy) Liu’s research group at Arizona State University (ASU). The successful candidate will work under Professor Liu’ supervision to develop supported metal atom and cluster catalysts for applications in energy production and environmental remediation. The specific skills of interest include developing robust catalyst synthesis protocols and evaluating catalytic performance (gas-phase, liquid-phase, and/or electrocatalytic reactions) of supported metal atom and/or cluster catalysts. Starting date is as early as May 2023. This is a fiscal year (12-month) appointment that may be renewed for three years. Candidates must have extensive experience and demonstrated innovation in synthesizing and evaluating supported metal catalysts.

Essential functions of the position:

  • Apply and/or develop catalyst synthesis protocols to fabricate atomically dispersed metal catalysts. Evaluate catalytic performance of the as-prepared catalysts with gas-phase, liquid-phase, and/or electrocatalytic reactors. Correlate structural characterization, synthesis, and catalytic performance to extract reliable synthesis-structure-performance relationships. Prepare drafts of journal manuscripts and research proposals.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, physics or a related field by the time of the appointment. Candidates must be within four years from receipt of their doctoral degree. Evidence of excellent skills in developing wet chemistry synthesis methods. Demonstrated extensive experience in catalytic evaluation of supported metal/alloy catalysts. Demonstrated verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills; record of high-quality journal publications and scientific presentations.

Desired qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience in using modern SEM, TEM/STEM, XPS, and other catalyst characterization techniques. Demonstrated experience or future commitment to working with diverse student, faculty, researcher, and staff populations.

To apply, please submit electronically to  http://apply.interfolio.com/123405 the following materials: (1) a cover letter which includes the names and email addresses of three references, (2) a curriculum vitae with a list of publications, and (3) a statement addressing how your past and/or potential contributions to diversity and inclusion will advance ASU’s commitment to inclusive excellence (maximum 1 page).
