Job Details

The Director of Institutional Research serves as a consultant on research issues, statistics, and survey design. The successful candidate will oversee the development of resource documents, query databases, and employ analytical tools in support of the institutional research function of the university. They will also serve on internal and external committees, work with the Assistant Provost for Institutional Effectiveness to identify data analyses and processes that provide tangible records for academic unit workload performance, create enrollment projections, and other key performance metrics. The director is responsible for the completion and submission of mandatory reports to both state and federal agencies including IPEDS, the Kansas Board of Regents, and other required reporting entities.

 

The Director of Institutional Research serves as the IPEDS Keyholder, coordinates Institution-wide data collections and submissions for the Kansas Board of Regents KHEDS reporting and is the Data Update Coordinator for Higher Learning Commission annual reporting. The director collaborates with other university units including Information Technologies, Registration, Financial Aid, Budget, Human Resources, Admissions, and Administration & Finance to facilitate, coordinate, and submit required external reports for the university.

 

The director provides leadership in identifying relevant institutional data; designs data gathering strategies; collects data; conducts analyses and prepares summary reports and recommendations for university-level long-range, strategic planning purposes.

 

The director designs research studies and conducts analysis and data interpretations on academic related topics, and for topics such as admissions, retention and enrollment management, student satisfaction and student success.

 

The director presents oral and written reports on findings to administration, deans, department chairs, and other university constituencies. The director assists in developing and producing standard procedures for collecting and reporting data to meet accreditation requirements.

 

The director reports to the Assistant Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and supervises a research analyst position.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

The successful candidate should possess an earned Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership, Data Analytics, Statistics & Evaluation, or other appropriate field and a minimum of three years of relevant experience in a higher education institutional research setting or a master’s degree combined with a minimum of five years of relevant experience in higher education institutional research. Experience in preparing and submitting IPEDS, and State level mandated reports is required.

Qualities and Skills:

Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills are required. Ability to develop planning and forecasting models; Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; Effective organizational management and leadership skills; Ability to work on multiple concurrent and frequently competing projects; and Effectiveness in being able to collaborate with campus decision makers, faculty, staff, as well as other internal and external constituencies. Excellent time management skills and the ability to submit reports by designated dates and reporting deadlines are essential to the successful candidate.

 

COMPENSATION:
