Angelo State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair of the Accounting, Economics, and Finance Department. The Chair is the head of a dynamic and diverse faculty, teaches courses in accounting, manages department resources, as well as scheduling department course offerings. In addition, the Chair is expected to work with local business professionals, recruit students and faculty, and provide general administrative direction for the department. The Chair will support a culture that values shared governance, inclusion, and a balance between effective instruction and scholarly research.

This position will be a tenured accounting faculty position at either the Associate Professor or Professor level. The preferred starting date for this position is Fall 2023.

Effective teaching, service and publication in refereed journals is required, consistent with the policies of the Norris-Vincent College of Business and Angelo State University. An appointment as an Associate Professor or higher level requires a proven record of excellence in teaching and peer-reviewed publication. All candidates are expected to be considered a Scholarly Academic (SA) at start of employment and to maintain that status in accordance with Angelo State University’s College of Business Faculty Qualifications Guidelines. About the Norris-Vincent College of Business

The Norris-Vincent College of Business at Angelo State University is dedicated to providing high quality education for the citizens of the State of Texas and beyond. The College’s business programs are accredited by AACSB. There are three departments in the College: Accounting, Economics, and Finance; Management and Marketing; and Aerospace Studies, which houses an award-winning Air Force ROTC detachment. In addition, the College is also the home for the ASU Small Business Development Center and the Center for Student Success, which provides advising and career services for all business students. The College has approximately 900 undergraduate students and 250 graduate students, awarding approximately 160 undergraduate and 50 graduate degrees each year. There are approximately 30 full time faculty, 12 part-time faculty, and 15 full time staff in the College.

About the Department of Accounting, Economics, and Finance

The Department offers the Bachelor of Business Administration degree with majors in Accounting, Economics, and Finance. In addition, a Masters in Public Accountancy is also offered. The Department has approximately 270 students, 12 full time faculty positions and one full time staff member.

Typical Duties/Job Duties

  • Provides effective leadership and vision for the Department, including responsibility for institutional planning reporting required by accreditation agencies
  • Responsible for the recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention of departmental faculty, support staff, student workers, and students majoring in academic programs offered by the Department
  • Serves as a positive role model and effective mentor for departmental faculty and students
  • Supervises and manages the academic assessment process and curriculum for all academic programs and courses offered by the Department
  • Supervises and manages the day-to-day administrative functions of the department

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of academic programs of the College and Department; of applicable University policies, procedures, and practices; principles and practices of effective human resource management and employee supervision; principles and practices of higher education and employee professional development; budget preparation and administration; requirements of all relevant regulatory agencies and organizations, including accreditation agencies
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement, direct and evaluate academic and related programs and functions; coordinate effectively a variety of programs and activities; ability to provide effective direction and supervision to department faculty, support staff, and student workers, as appropriate; interpret and correctly apply University policies and procedures; analyze problems and determine appropriate solutions
  • Skilled in oral and written communication, interpersonal dynamics, project planning and implementation, academic leadership

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate from an AACSB accredited business school in the field of accounting or a closely related field
  • Record of scholarly research and publications to warrant a tenured appointment as either an Associate Professor of Accounting or Professor of Accounting, as well as meeting the Scholarly Academic (SA) status at time of appointment
  • Ability to teach in two or more of the following areas:

     

    • Financial Accounting
    • Accounting Information Systems
    • Data Analytics
    • Managerial/Cost Accounting
    • Tax
    • Audit
  • Effective teaching record
  • Excellent written and oral English skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification (CPA, CMA, CIA, etc.)
  • Academic administrative experience
  • Recent employment history at an AACSB accredited business school
  • A working knowledge of current AACSB accreditation standards, as well as curriculum and assessment methods
