Bus Driver

Salary: $ 18.20 per hour

We are hiring full time and part time drivers!

Summary

The bus driver is responsible for the safe operation of the Rice University buses and for providing excellent transportation and customer service to the Rice community and visitors. The driver must be an ambassador to the Rice community and must be tactful at all times. The driver will provide detailed information to passengers on campus events, parking, building and METRO information as needed. S/he must keep up with all university policies and regulations, state and Federal transportation and traffic rules.

Essential Functions

• Transports university community members and guests
• Follows safety rules and comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner
• Provides embarking and disembarking assistance to passengers as needed
• Maintains order among passengers during trips to ensure safety
• Provides detailed information to passengers about campus events, parking, buildings and METRO information as needed
• Checks the condition of a vehicle’s tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order
• Reports any bus malfunctions or needed repairs
• Maintains knowledge of first-aid procedures
• Prepares and submits reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, and fuel consumption
• Performs all other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent
• Six months related bus driving experience
• Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, nights and holidays as needed
• Must possess and maintain a Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger, school and airbrakes endorsement, with no more than three (3) moving violations or at fault accidents in the past three years and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) within the past 10 years.

• Able to operate electronic equipped vehicles
• Ability to clean and sweep buses
• Must wear company provided uniforms
• Must follow department and university policies at all times

Preferred Qualifications

• School bus driving skills and dealing with students, staff and visitors on a regular basis.
• Great customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers
• Ability to be a great ambassador for the university
• Basic computer knowledge
• Commercial bus driving skills
• Ability to work with diverse people and provide relevant information
