Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is currently seeking an Assistant Trainer! Serves as Athletic trainer for the department with a focus on Intramurals & Club Sports, Rodeo, Cheer & Dance, and Green Man Group Athletes. Coordinates at a high level athletic injury prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation. Provides athletic training services and timely first aid/emergency treatment to various teams and programs in Student Life at official practices and competitions. Services include but are not limited to: coordination of physical exams, evaluation and treatment of injuries, creation and follow through on all rehabilitation programs, educate and counsel student-athletes on injury. Researches, implements, monitors, and enforces industry standards, risk management, and safety practices for all areas of responsibility. Documents injuries, treatments, rehabilitation, appointments and surgeries using electronic medical record keeping. Administer first-aid to student athletes. Maintains discretion and confidentiality and handle sensitive matters involving athletic injuries, mental illness and the respective treatments. Develops and enforces safety procedures. Assists in providing total wellness of student-athletes, including drug and alcohol education, testing, CPR Training, etc.. Assists with the purchasing of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for department operations. Works with all entities to provide coverage to practices, games, and matches as well as in office hours. May require travel and hours outside normal 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. working hours.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • 40% Provides adequate medical assistance for student-athletes on assigned sports teams in practice and competition.
  • 20% Upholds and abides by all conference and UVU institutional policies and procedures.
  • 15% Educates and trains student-athletes to promote health, safety, and well being. Maintains athletic training certification and CPR/AED first Aid certification.
  • 15% Maintains the physical and operational responsibilities for the medicine facility. Maintains organized documentation for student-athletes/care.
  • 10%Performs other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of two years of experience related to the Summary of Duties OR a combination of education and experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling six years.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Certification or Licenses:
National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification - Certified Athletic Trainer.
Current CPR/AED for the professional rescuer certification

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of athletic training including conditioning, injury prevention, injury assessment, and rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge and basic skill in therapeutic exercise techniques and functional progression programs.
  • Knowledge of medical record management.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and serve as a liaison among athletes.
  • Skills to perform clinical and sideline evaluation of injury, and to design and implement basic treatment programs.
  • Skills in the application of protective wraps, tape and bracing devices.
  • Ability to effectively assess and evaluate injuries and their severity.
  • Ability to develop conditioning and rehabilitation programs and manage and treat injuries.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
