Overview

The Princeton University Art Museum, one of the nation’s preeminent cultural institutions in an academic setting, seeks applications for a full-time benefits-eligible Manager of Marketing and Public Relations to support the Museum’s marketing and public relations. Reporting to the Associate Director for Communication and Information, the Manager of Marketing and Public Relations will work in collaboration with staff from across the institution to facilitate the Museum’s ongoing marketing and promotion of its exhibitions, programming, scholarship, and other activities.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Promote the Museum and its collections, robust programs, galleries, exhibitions, store, scholarship, impact, and especially the new museum. Drive engagement/traffic/attendance (digital and in-person).
  • Expand reach and raise brand awareness, especially among key target audiences.
  • Understand institutional brand objectives and create/execute strategic marketing/communications campaigns and initiatives to advance those goals.
  • Reach multiple key audiences: Princeton campus, the local community, alums, regional arts enthusiasts, and the wider art media and art scholarly world.
  • Convey institutional commitments to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and create marketing content that conveys the Museum as a diverse, welcoming place for all.
  • Work closely with peers in Museum’s in-house design studio.
  • Provide marketing support to Museum’s development/membership department, including on events, travel programs, and other calls for support.
  • Coordinate with the University’s central Office of Communication and peers across campus.
  • Innovate new ways to build on Museum’s existing marketing to reach institutional objectives more effectively.
  • Manage video projects, usually with University’s in-house video department.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent project management and time management skills.
  • Strong understanding of PR and media relations.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of current and emerging outreach tools and channels, especially social media.
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills across multiple stakeholders within cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Detail-oriented with the capability to foster creativity while adhering to strict process guidelines and editorial protocols.
  • Five to ten years of marketing communications experience (two to five years of which should be within an art museum or other cultural heritage context).
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in providing communications support for a new building project.
  • Experience in planning and executing a rebranding effort, particularly in the cultural arts space.
