Position Summary:

University Marketing, the central marketing and brand office at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is looking to add an enthusiastic, talented full-time web director to our web group. We play a critical role in all of the university's major communication and marketing efforts. The web group is responsible for many of the university's most prominent online products, including the UW-Madison home page, campus map, #UWSocial, and events calendar, to name a few. We need a leader, with a vision for how technology can drive communications in University Marketing's efforts to advance the teaching, research and public outreach missions of this Big Ten university.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required; preferably in information science, communications, computer science or related field.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

- 8+ years in web development, web design, digital media or digital communications.
- Proven track record in developing, setting and driving online strategy.
- Significant experience leading and working in collaborative teams and work environments.
- Ability to fluently converse about technology in a development environment and about branding in a creative environment and then translate both technology and creative design for clients.
- Knowledge of current best practices, issues and trends in website design and development. Ability to stay current with web technology and design is essential.
- Demonstrated passion for creating exceptional user experiences across a diverse range of user devices (phone, tablet, computer). Experience with Responsive Web Design and an understanding of how RWD impacts the web design process is critical.
- Experience working with common front-end web technologies is desired, particularly HTML5, CSS and JavaScript. Familiarity with one or more back-end development CMSs or frameworks is desirable, particularly WordPress and Ruby on Rails.
- Understanding of content strategy and how presentation of content relates to exceptional web design and development.
- Proven record of providing client-friendly support and development services, with a record as an excellent collaborator and communicator.
- Ability to deliver high-quality, creative work on tight deadlines with attention to detail.
- Understanding of the complexities of working on common goals and initiatives in a highly decentralized environment.
- Knowledge of and passion for UW-Madison and/or higher education.
