Job Summary

The Wellness Case Manager will provide support to students through one-on-one interactions, crisis counseling and intervention, and connection to health, wellness, and support services. The ideal candidate will be able to provide culturally responsive prevention education and outreach programming in coordination with other campus offices, with a focus on addressing topics of concern among Hispanic and underserved students. The Wellness Case Manager will provide short-term counseling and coaching to help students address problems and to assist with managing stress, time management and organization skills. This position is a member of the Center for Excellence and Achievement and the Office of Equity and Inclusion, and is funded by the Title V DHSI Grant awarded to Elmhurst University.

Essential Functions
  • Provide time-based interventions and coaching to students, support students in identifying and addressing problems, and connect them with appropriate support services
  • Provide voluntary trauma-informed, culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate services
  • Coach students how to navigate campus and community resources, including on and off-campus health, wellness, and support services, and Hispanic/Latiné community-based social services agencies
  • Develop and maintain relationships, both formal and informal, with allied organizations, community members, and other service providers, with an emphasis on Hispanic/Latiné organizations and community members
  • Empower students to advocate for themselves effectively
  • Proactively identify and work toward eliminating student-success barriers, including but not limited to challenges with maintaining fidelity to an academic program; limited access to resources and technology; equity and accessibility challenges; financial hardships; food, housing, and/or transportation insecurity; and challenges with personal skills (e.g., goal-setting, time management, study skills, test-taking strategies, self-advocacy, mindset, etc.)
  • Collaborate with other areas on campus including the Office of Equity & Inclusion, Wellness Center, Academic and Student Affairs, specifically Student Support and Intervention.
  • Establish and chair a Student Mental Health and Awareness Advisory Committee consisting of peer mentors that will engage in and present culturally responsive prevention education and holistic wellness programming
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, counseling in Higher Education or related field
  • Knowledge of community resources and social services agencies in the Chicago Metropolitan area
  • The ability to work with and relate to a culturally diverse student body, their families, and external communities, including the ability to intentionally engage the Hispanic/Latiné student experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and conduct presentations for a variety of audiences
  • Ability, knowledge and forward thinking to determine when a student requires additional professional help
  • Proficient in the use of MS Suite of applications (Word, Excel, Access) and student success management or learning management systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • LPC, LSW, LCPC or LCSW
  • Bilingual with a proficiency in Spanish
  • Experience in a higher education setting
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object. Evening and weekend hours as required.
